Wellsboro, Mountain Fun - Sep 22-24

The McCurdeys were our gracious hosts for the First Annual Mountain Fun and campout near Wellsboro, PA. Friday's ride-in was nearly perfect, complete with a sandwich stop at our favorite place in the whole world for fresh buns- Slate Run. The "Concours Supply Vehicle " (not to be confused with John Hinton's "Concours Support Vehicle") did not arrive until well after dark, so we had to make due with what ever we scrounge up at the Wellsboro beer distributer. Friday afternoon and evening was mostly devoted to setting up camp, eating dinner, and spreading general lies around the campfire.

Saturday, brought rain shortly after breakfast. Glenn "Saddlebag Cookout" Lucci had laid out 5 routes that all went up Hyner Run; go figure. George Fetsko and headed west for a bit on US-6. We stopped several places, including the Pennsylvania Lumber Museum. A very interesting place and worth the $3.50 to get in. They have a complete lumber and CCC camp set up and a pretty nifty exhibit devoted to the CCC. Jean's grandpa was with the Interior Department when the CCC was very active during the Great Depression. George and I split company shortly thereafter, as I headed southward through several large state parks on my way to Hyner Run.

It remained mostly wet until, tada, time for dinner. Rick, Herr Ober, Shirk has prepared a feast befit of COG kings with his award winning Chicken Corn Chowder and soon to be prize winning Meanass BBQ. We again, retired to the campfire for even more lies, if that's possible.

Early Sunday, the rain returned with a vengence. As we broke camp in between downpours, a general "we must do this again" was obvious. The rain left us somewhere near I-80.
