Ag Nanoparticle Raman Scattering

......

Dependence of Plasmon Resonance Frequency on Ellipsoid Shape:
This is based on Figure 1.5 on page 24 of Hervé Portales' 2001 thesis. I make the simplifying assumption here that the effect of the d electrons is simply to add 3 to the susceptibility inside the nanoparticle. The correct frequency dependence of the d electron permittivity is shown in Figure 1.3 on page 18 of the thesis. My figure agrees well with Hervé's figure as long as ω is low. There is some disagreement when ω is high, which makes sense since the d electron permittivity peaks when ω reaches 4 eV. I also assumed that the relative permittivity of Al2O3 is 3 since I couldn't find the correct value.

For this next version I fitted Re(ε(d)) for silver from Figure 1.3 on page 18 of the thesis. Below 4 eV it is well approximated by Re(ε(d)) = 3.7 + 0.03 ω3 where ω is in electron volts. This graph closely matches Figure 1.5 on page 24 of the thesis.
