Wham - Bam - Thank You Spaceman (1975)

Here's another "must have" release from Something Weird Video. WBTYSM ranks just a hair under The Curious Dr. Humpp as my favorite release from Something Weird. On to the movie - Dyanne Thorne of Ilsa fame has a small cameo early on in the film as a well-intentioned hooker. Oddly enough, Thorne was fine with having her name linked to the vile villainess Ilsa but pursued legal action to have her name removed from this soft-core romp. In the onscreen credits she's billed under a different name (Rosalee Stein) but on the packaging she's referred to by her real name. In Thorne's defense, I think she was caught off guard by how heavy handed the film is with the explicit smut.

Director William Levy (who directed Blackenstien the same year) and legendary producer Harry Novak really deliver the goods with this one. The voice-overs for the pantomiming aliens (since their mouths seem to only function as jock straps - this will probably make more sense after seeing the film) is absolutely incredible. I couldn't stop laughing whenever Jackoff or Asshole (that's their names) opened their, er, mouths. Some of the dialogue is rude and downright offensive, and I wouldn't want it any other way! The costumes fit the movie perfectly, all the way down to the deflated balloons used for ears. The plot (for lack of a better word) is loosely knit to show off the well endowed female cast and is wrapped around by extraterrestrial hijinks. If only the beautiful Rene Bond could have somehow found her way in here this would possibly be the best sexploitation movie ever made.

The packaging for this DVD is up to Something Weird's standard of excellence, the only thing left to be desired is a write up on the gatefold inlay card. The extras are great as always. Stand outs include the short film The Peeper (why the hell is he lighting a match to see in broad daylight?!) and a trailer for a film called The Toy Box (aka The Orgy Box - review coming soon!).
