| Sarah had been running around the Escher room in increasing desperation for the last few minutes, chasing after Toby, who, though capable of no more than a dawdling crawl, nevertheless inexplicably managed to travel faster than she. The clock had shown five minutes to thirteen in the throne room. She was running out of time, and if she didn't catch Toby soon, it would be too late. The Goblin King was singing somewhere off in the crazily tilted stairs, but Sarah wasnt paying attention. Her only thought was of her baby brother. Losing sight of the crawling baby for an instant, Saarah paused to relocate him. Based on his previous patterns of movement, he could be anywhere in the maze. Finally, she spotted him, perched precariously on a circular ledge a goodly distance below her, dangling his legs off the edge. Sarah could see no convenient staircases leading down to Toby, and she knew she had no more tiome for the chase. The game had to end now. As the Goblin King ended his song, whatever it had been, Sarah jumped. Jareth watched impassively as Sarah plunged to her death far below. "Hmm," he remarked to no one in particular as he turned and left the Escher room. "Stupid, really." |
