Phoebe Buffay on Friends
Brainy and grounded, this blond bombshell is no "Phoebe Flake."
Biography :
"It's bad enough to have my performance reviewed, but when you get reviewed just for existingthat's tough. At my first Emmys, I got a big thumbs-up from Joan Rivers about my dress, and I thought, 'Phew!' Then I was disappointed that I cared. But I've realized that I have to try to go with it and have funto take more control of my look and inject a little more of myself." InStyle, August 1997
When Lisa decided to follow in the medical footsteps of her father, who is a research scientist in the field of migraine headaches, she suppressed her strong desires to become an actress. Thinking that she would not be taken seriously as a performer, she was finally swayed when her brother's best friend, Jon Lovitz, became a regular on Saturday Night Live. In 1990, she joined the Groundlings, an improv group, performing while struggling to find auditions. Unhappy, she attended therapy lessons, which helped Lisa overcome her fear of being wrong.

In 1993, after a few minor roles, she struck gold. Playing the nutty waitress Ursula on Mad About You, she impressed critics so much that NBC created the character Phoebe (Ursula's twin sister) for the series that led to a nomination for an American Comedy Award in 1994. In 1997 she was chosen by People magazine as one of the 50 Most Beautiful People in the World. Today, Lisa lives in Los Angeles with her husband of four years, Michael Stern, and their son, Julian Murray.
