Courteney Cox, a Southern belle from Alabama, began her entertainment career as a model in New York the year after she graduated from high school. She did photo shoots for Noxema and Maybelline before she decided acting was her calling. After eliminating her Southern accent, Cox scored roles on As the World Turns and in Bruce Springsteen's "Dancing in the Dark" music video. The exposure from those small parts was enough to springboard her career, and she immediately got roles in the comical science fiction sitcom Misfits of Science and on the popular comedy Family Ties. Cox was also cast in several films, including Masters of the Universe and Cocoon: The Return. In 1989, Family Ties was cancelled, putting Courteney's career at a standstill. She didn't get another significant acting role until 1994, when she was cast in the hit film, Ace Ventura: Pet Detective. The success of that film helped her earn a role on the extremely popular 1994 TV sitcom Friends. Recently, Cox starred in popular teen horror flicks Scream and Scream 2 with David Arquette, who impressed Cox so much that she married him on June 13, 1999.
Lauren Miller on Family Ties: For two years, Cox played Alex's girlfriend on a sitcom about the Keaton family and their comical everyday adventures.
