One of the many great things about pipesmoking is that there are so many different blends and variations of tobaccos that one can smoke a different blend every day for years.  Once you have been smoking a pipe for a while, you will start to know what you like and dislike.  We all have our favorite blends as well as blends that we hate.  Here I present just a few of mine.
Blends that I love...
Mac Baren Scottish Mixture Known internationally as "Mac Baren Mixture", this blend is one of the top-selling tobaccos in the world. It has a very subtle honey-anise flavor, burns very slow and does not bite when smoked slowly and with great care. This is the blend I would chose if I were only allowed to have one blend for the rest of my life.  It is my favorite blend of all blends I have tried.  Made in Svendborg, Denmark.
Escudo This blend is a premium blend of Virginia tobaccos and perique.  The leaves are layered evenly, rolled into a tight rope and processed.  After time, the rope is thinly sliced into beautiful discs approximately the size of  pepperoni slices on a pizza. These discs can be rubbed out and packed normally into a pipe or just folded and stuffed into the pipe.  I prefer the latter method as it brings out more flavor and burns much slower.  If you tke your time with Escudo, you can get a three-hour smoke from a bowl easily.  No casings on this tobacco and the tin aroma smells like a fine rose' wine.  Made in Denmark.
G.L.Pease "Barbary Coast" Extremely high-quality blend containing cubed burley, fine red virginia and some other goodies.  The blend is given a touch of good brandy to make it complete.  Very aromatic yet no casings, (blends like these are sometimes referred to as "natural aromatics" and are considered great tobacco, unlike the "goopy" aromatics many pipe smokers despise).  Made right here in the U.S.A.
G.L.Pease "Abingdon" Incredible Balkan blend so full and heavy that it is NOT for the beginner pipesmoker! Lots of dark flavors here, latakia heavy, yet so complex that it's always delivering new flavors.  This is a blend to go to after you have established a good appreciation for English blends.
Dunhill Light Flake Sliced pure Virginia. No casings, just pure high quality tobacco.  Thick slices a bit longer and wider than a stick of chewing gum.
Gawith Full Virginia Flake Gorgeous dark thick slabs of sweet stoved Virginia leaf!
G.L.Pease "Blackpoint" Amazing English blend that is more like an adventure with something new every bowl.
Rattray "Marlin Flake"
Beautiful dark matured Virginia pressed into a uniform strip.  Nuances of raisins, figs and a tangy zest make for a long sophisticated smoke.
Rattray "Hal O' the Wynd" Broken flake blend of matured Virginias.  Slightly sweet with a dark undertone.
Rattray "Red Rapperee" Sweet , plush and smokey!  This is a very rich blend of fine Turkish tobaccos supported by some Red Virginia and Cyprian Latakia.
Rattray "Three Noggins" A fine English blend that is sweet yet smokey with a full-bodied base.  Ribbon-cut for easy packing and burning.  Perfectly balanced and a wonderful escape from those mundane moments in life.
G.L.Pease "Ashbury" A well-balanced mixture of Virginias with just the right amount of Cyprian Latakia.  This is an amazing blend in that it showcases the Virginias if you smoke this in a pipe that smokes Virginia tobaccos and it will bring the Latakia out to the front if smoked in a pipe used to Latakia blends.  It is truly a blend that has something for everyone.
Mac Baren Navy Flake A wonderful flake of Burley and some Virginia.  Burns well, with great Burley flavor.
McClelland Virginia No. 25 A fine-cut blend of premium red and black Virginias. Slightly sweet with dark undertones
McClelland Acadian Ribbon A dark matured Virginia blend that is ribbon-cut. Flavor builds as the bowl progresses.
Orlik Golden Sliced A flake of golden Virginias. Slightly sweet with some great flavors especially when exhaled through the nose.
Blends that I hate...
Note: Just because I dislike these blends does not mean that I think they are poor quality.  They are just blends that do not agree with my personal preferences in a blend for one reason or another.

Gawith "1792 Flake" Formerly known as "Cob Flake", this is a beautiful shredded Virginia flake that is saturated in Tonquin, an extract of the Tonka bean.  It is a flavor you either love or hate, myself in the latter category.  I tried this flake on the night that I came down with a severe intestinal virus and I ended up vomitting after tasting this blend.  I think I made it to the first third of the bowl.  It made me so sick that I tossed out the tin and the pipe and now just the thought of it make me nauseous.  I know that the tobacco itself did not make me sick but since that experience I associate 1792 Flake with severe tummy trauma.
Reiner Professional This blend is described as having a "hickory nut and apricot brandy" flavoring.  My interpretation of it was more of underarm sweat with cheap perfume.  It colors your pipe bowl heavily and it is almost impossible to get rid of the flavoring.  It burned hot, tasted terrible and ruined 3 pipes.
Germain Plumcake I wanted to try this blend for a long time and when I finally got a tin I was greatly disappointed.  I found the topping to be overwhelming in strength and the flavor to that of old motor oil.  It tasted bitter, dark and it left an aftertaste like some bad cough syrup.
