I am Sloan Hardin Newman and I have been fencing for two years. I have been fencing competatively for one year. I received my D at the USC Sword in the Stone tournament in '01, coming in third under Mike Kelly (2nd) and Manley McKinley (1st). I renewed my D this summer at the Charleston Fencing on the Beach Competition held by Brian and Rea. My first and current coach is Kem Fronabarger. I have trained with Jane Litman and Mastro Beginae. I have been fencing since my second semester freshman year. I have competed in touraments from Upstate North Carolina to Georgia. My hopes for the Club are to increase the size of and the interest in the sport of fencing at the College of Charleston. Maybe by the time I leave here the college will have an average competition team that tries to compete in at least four of the state tournaments semesterly.
