Notes: Ebenezer Coe was born near Morristown, NJ abt. 1736, renewed the covenant with the
Morristown Church 12Mar1763. During the Revolution he removed to western
PA, and in 1763 was taxed in Huntington Township, Westmoreland, PA. for
2 horses, 2 cattle and 4 sheep. On 10Nov1790 he bought of his
brother-in-law Edward Byram 250 acres on Lyons Run, Pitt Township, PA
which on 17Apr1795 he sold to George Hanks. (Wallace Mss.) His name
does not appear in the US Census of 1790, his family being included
under the head of his father, Benjamin Coe at "the Depression Tract"
Penn.. (see ante, pg. 104.) Later he lived with his sister Mrs. Williams
and with his son Stephen Coe in Jefferson Co. Ohio and in Dalton, Wayne
Co., Ohio where he died 25Jul1827 at 90 years old.
in a centennial address in 1875, Rev. Aaron Williams, D. D., grandnephew
of Ebenezer Coe, stated: "A kinsman of my own, "father" Ebenezer Coe was
a soldier in the Revolution and in his old age made his home mostly in
my grandfathers house. He was a man of fervent piety and daily had
secret prayers in his chamber."
On 9Nov1818, Ebenezer Coe, aged 80, of Ross Township, Jefferson
Co., Ohio applied for a pension for Revolutionary service, having
enlisted in Washington Co.,PA.,26Feb1778 as Lieut. in Capt. Leaches
Company, Col. George Baird's regiment in Penn. Line and served 11
months. He lived in Washington Co. PA. and Jefferson Co., Ohio with his
sister and son , by turns. Claim allowed. (US pension records)
