The Cody we see here is a preview of the Cody in the history books. He is the puffed up young kid that eventually stole our hearts and the hearts of the history books themselves. He is a very vague representation of the renowned William F. "Buffalo Bill" Cody of the American history books. All though little is known about the younger part of The Real Cody's life, I believe this is somewhat like he was.
We know little about Cody's background up until the point we meet him, from there we learn and know what to expect from him. We learn and look forward to his smart-alecky comments and come-backs. His quick witty mouth gets him in trouble sometimes, and he tends to stick his foot in his mouth quite often. He is also funny, and smart. He has confidence and exhibits this quite often. He is very sure of himself and at times a bit conceited. He is very good with a gun, although he tends to show out some. He knows he is a good shot and will not hesitate to let everyone know it, nor will he let you forget it.
Through out the three seasons he was with us we saw this character expand. He became less like the cocky kid in the first season and became more like the Cody of the history books. He became a little less brassy and a little more human. This is probably due to the people and times he faced. The loss of Ike tore at his heart, and made him a bit stronger. This was the first of many friends he would loose. Hezikiah Horn taught Cody a lot. He made Cody realize that life isn't always fair and sometimes it is a bit cruel. That the world isn't Black and White that there are some Gray areas. He left his mark on Cody's heart and made him think. There by, making him a more compassionate and caring person. After his passing, Cody lost it. He did some drinking, and fighting and somehow ended up with some dark people. People he thought were good, but were bad. He tried to do what was best to ensure the continuing glory of the American West. It is here when we start to see the forth coming of Cody's life, and his goal to help the old west become the famed old west it is today . Aside from Hezikiah, the loss of Noah was probably one of the toughest. Cody feels responsible and slowly but eventually forgives himself.
At the end of the third season, Cody joins the army as a scout. Even though the riders oppose. He sets out to do his part to make America great.
This is where the history books pick up and the rest is history!
