SPONDON DYNAMOS MATCH REPORT (HOME FIXTURE)
The boys need just two more wins from their remaining seven matches to win the league title
as two of their nearest rivals again lost ground for the second week running making the
lads task much easier than we were expecting. In the first game between the two sides this
season we decided to play the wing back system something we had not used or practiced in
training before, with a view to changing back to our normal formation at any given time if
we looked like we were struggling, this decision was made mainly due to the Dynamo team who
before today`s game were bottom of the division so it was an ideal opportunity to put it to
the test.
From the kick off Codnor pressed Spondon back in their own half and began to take
the game by the scruff of the neck but found it difficult to penetrate the Dynamo defence for
the first ten minutes, when they did manage to get through Dynamo crowded out the Codnor
attackers keeping them from creating many chances on goal. Codnor finally took the lead with
20 minutes played when J.Griffths squared across a superb pass to release R.Cooke who stole a
yard on his marker before scoring into the far corner to take the boys into a 1-0 lead, there
were not many more shots on either goal for the remainder of the half as the boys had struggled
to adjust to the new system and went into the interval with a slender 1-0 advantage.
For the start of the second half the formation was changed back to their normal system and all three
substitutes were made adding some fresh legs, within minutes added their second goal of the
game when L.Wilson set up F.Kirk for his 28th league goal of the season, shortly after L.Wilson
increased the lead further to 3-0 when M.Housley seized the opportunity to play him in.
Codnor were now firing on all cylinders and extended their lead further to 4-0 with M.Housley
again provider setting up L.Wilson who scored an excellent goal from an acute angle which
he lifted over the Dynamo keeper to perfection, Dynamo just didn`t have an answer to the
boys dominance as they struggled to get out of their own half for very long periods.
Codnor scored their 5th goal when R.Cooke`s throw was touched back into the 18 yard box
by F.Kirk to R.Burke who stepped outside his defender sending him the wrong way allowing
him the time to pick his spot which he did excellently by scoring in the far corner of the
net, constant bombardment was now telling on the Spondon defence and the boys scored their
6th goal of the game when a J.Miles corner evaded everybody except L.Wilson who shot the
ball home for his first hat-rick of the season for the boys not bad considering he had
only been on the field for 20-25 minutes. Codnor rounded their scoring off when a header
by F.Kirk was lunged at by a Dynamo defender with his back to goal which looped over his
own keeper to make the final score 7-0.
Another excellent performance especially in the second half where they totally over ran their
opponents, they look every bit like champions in this form and will have fully deserved it
come the seasons end. Keep it going for as long as possible, WELL DONE LADS!
