RIVERSIDE MATCH REPORT (HOME FIXTURE)
Riverside came here today looking to keep their winning run going with the hope of closing the
gap with the teams above them whilst also trying to break Codnors run of 19 league wins on the
trot, in the last encounter between the two teams codnor secured a 3-0 victory but didnt have
things all their own way so we were expecting a close game. We changed the formation for the start
of this game to a 4-3-3 system and in the early exchanges Codnor looked the more threatening of
the two teams without taking their advantage, with 15 minutes gone Riverside took the lead against
the run of play when Codnors defence went to sleep from a throw in resulting in one of their
strikers stealing in to get a one on one chance with Codnors keeper and he punished the boys
with a clever lob to take the visitors into a 1-0 lead, codnor responded quickly and scored in
fine style when a J.Miles corner was met full on the volley by J.Griffiths to level the score at
1-1, five minutes before the halftime whistle codnor took the lead when L.Wilson put over a telling
cross into the box and J.Griffiths flicked the ball goal wards and R.Burke who saw the opportunity
and he sneaked in at the back post where he volleyed the ball home from close range putting the boys
into a 2-1 lead which they held at halftime.
The formation was changed back to a 4-4-2 for the start of the second half due to them losing a
lot of the possession in midfield the boys quickly began penning Riverside back in their own half
for longer periods with the numerous chances they had going begging, Codnor finally got the
breakthrough they deserved when L.Wilson had his legs taken from under him inside the area resulting
in a penalty which he stepped up to take and scored with ease to put the boys 3-1 up, Codnor then
stepped up the gear and scored within the next few minutes when J.Griffiths slipped passed his marker
and released the ball to J.Miles and his momentum carried him into the penalty area and he shot the
ball home into the bottom corner putting codnor 4-1 up, with Codnor now firing on all cylinders it
was inevitable more goals would follow and J.Miles stretched the boys lead further with a shot which
the keeper couldnt quite keep out after an excellent pass by T.Childs over the top of the Riverside
defence making the score 5-1, with minutes remaining the boys extended their lead again when T.Sanderson
played another excellent ball over the top which released R.Burke down the middle and he used his pace
to leave the Riverside defence in hia wake and as the keeper came out to close him down he pushed his
shot into the bottom far corner making the final score line 6-1. Man of the match J.Griffiths.
The boys coasted to victory with their exceptional 2nd half display keeping up their winning run which
they have now extended to 20 games , Well Done .
