HEANOR JUNIORS MATCH REPORT (AWAY FIXTURE)
Both teams were without key players for this local Derby needing a win in this six pointer game
to stay in contention with the teams in the top five of the league. After last weeks match
cancellation Codnor started in excellent style by penning Heanor in their own half for a large
proportion of the first 30 minutes but found the Heanor keeper in fine form when he made three
good saves in the early stages of the game to keep them on level terms. Codnor kept up their
relentless pressure by keeping hold of the ball and making some excellent passes to open up the
Heanor defence on numerous occasions.
Codnor finally opened up the scoring when T.Richardson
scored his 3rd goal this season when he struck the ball home from inside the 18 yard box shortly
after M.Housley doubled the lead with a half volley which took a deflection before hitting the
back of the net, futher chances came and went in what had been an excellent 1st half Codnor team
performance.
Second half into the wind Codnor came out in much of the same fashion and scored
two quick goals at the mid-way point of the game through J.Miles to give Codnor a 4-0 cushion
which they never looked like losing as the Codnor defence played brilliantly in front of their
goal leaving S.Neal the Codnor keeper with a quiet day throughout the match. Codnor scored a
final goal with five minutes remaining from leading scorer F.Kirk from close range but Heanor
had played a lot better in this half without creating a single shot at goal and must thank their
keeper for keeping the score down to 5-0 when it could of quite easily of been doubled and the
Codnor Boys must be proud of there performance as they now have won all six matches so far and
remain top of the league with nearly a third of the season over.
