DUFFIELD DYNAMOS MATCH REPORT (AWAY FIXTURE)
The boys will now be crowned league champions if they overcome Little Eaton Diamonds
at home next weekend after this weeks convincing victory away at Duffield took them 13
points clear of their nearest rivals whilst completing the double over six teams from
this division.
We were expecting a harder game today than when these two teams met back
in October so we fielded a strongish side to start with , the boys took control in as
early as 5 minutes when R.Burke chipped the ball into the area and F.Kirk struck the
ball home for his 29th league goal of the season to make it 1-0, minutes later Codnor
scored their second goal when F.Kirk became provider by setting up J.Miles who beat
the Dynamo keeper with a powerful shot to the far corner to make it 2-0 to the boys ,
Duffield struggled to contain a rampant Codnor who were playing some excellent football
whilst the boys defence coped with Dynamos rare attacks limiting them to two half
chances one which went right across the Codnor 5 yard box evading everyone after some
good work by Duffield`s J. Thompson on the left wing and the other which took a bobble
from a back pass which the Codnor keeper miss-kicked but fortunately C.Buxton anticipated
the danger and cleared the ball away from 3 yards out , Codnor created a few more chances
with one chance just clearing the crossbar and various others which the Dynamo keeper saved
keeping the score line down until a throw in allowed R.Burke the opportunity to cross the
ball to the unmarked J.Miles inside the box giving him the time and space to pick his spot
for goal number 20 for the season and put the boys 3-0 up inside 15 minutes . Constant Codnor
pressure resulted in a Duffield defender handling the ball inside his own area after a
cross into the box and J.Griffiths stepped up to take the penalty hitting the ball high
into the roof of the net to put Codnor into a 4-0 lead on 20 minutes ,the boys increased
their lead 5 minutes later when J.Miles put over a telling cross which J.Griffiths flicked
on and R.Burke stole round the back of his marker and side footed the ball home into the
roof of the net making the score 5-0 , it didnt take Codnor long to increase their lead
further and this goal was of the highest caliber as it came from a five man move ending
with F.Kirk laying the ball back into the path of J.Griffiths who from 7 yards out curled
a shot into the far corner of the net leaving the Dynamo keeper no chance for his 12th
goal of this years campaign , the boys had goal keeper L.Mckenna to thank for making an
excellent save in a one on one situation close to end of a fantastic first half and went
in 6-0 at half time .
Two Codnor substitutions were made for the start of the 2nd half
and Duffield began to come more into the game without really getting the better of the
boys but it was Dynamo who created quite a few half chances which they spurned in an
entertaining end to end second 30 minutes ,Codnor finally scored their 7th goal of the
game when J Miles played the ball across to the unmarked M Housley who shot the ball
clinically over the Dynamo keeper with 15 minutes remaining, Duffield didnt give up
and kept battling looking for a consolation goal but Codnors goal keeper was in fine
form after he made two excellent saves late in the game two deservedly earn himself
man of the match award L McKenna.
