CHELLASTON BOYS MATCH REPORT (HOME FIXTURE)

The boys who had already been crowned as Division 2 league champions seven weeks ago came into their final game of the season in midweek at home knowing a win would take them to an all time new record of 22 wins out of the 22 league games played ,in their first season at 11 a side football.

From the kick off Codnor began by pressurising the Chellaston defence and took just 5 minutes to open the scoring when a poor goal kick was picked up by F.Kirk who dispatched the ball out wide to T.Richardson and his excellent through ball split open the visitors defence releasing J.Miles and he slotted the ball home for a 1-0 lead to the boys ,within minutes of the restart Codnor went 2-0 up when M.Shelton crossed over the ball from the left wing which picked out J.Miles and he cracked his shot in from 3 yards out. Codnor punished Chellaston further shortly after with their third goal of the game when F.Kirks shot rebounded off the post which fell kindly to J.Miles and he made sure with a shot into the bottom corner to make the score line 3-0 giving him an hat-trick inside the first 10 minutes , It was now one way traffic as the boys were playing some excellent passing football and it didn`t take Codnor long before they stretched their lead further still when J.Miles again scored with his fourth of the game after being set up for a second time by M.Shelton making it 4-0. The boys were now firing on all cylinders and went 5-0 up when L.Wilson received a pass from T.Richarson inside Codnor`s own half and he used his tremendous pace to take him into the opposition`s penalty area before letting fly with a shot which was initially blocked but the ball rebounded back to him and he made sure second time around with a shot into the far corner. Chellaston just didn`t have an answer to the boys dominance and when a ball was played over the top of their defence F.Kirk raced onto it before holding off the challenges and as the keeper came out he played the ball the back to the unmarked J.Miles who so far was on fire and he cleverly lifted a shot over the top of the Chellaston keeper to put Codnor into a 6-0 lead. The boys next goal was of the highest calibre which was again scored by J.Miles after he chipped the ball up before turning 180 degrees and cracking the ball home on the volley which gave their keeper no chance to make it 7-0 to Codnor with 20 minutes played. F.Kirk stretched the boys lead shortly after when his initial pass came back to him off one of the Chellaston`s defender`s legs allowing him a 2nd opportunity which he took brilliantly for an 8-0 advantage. With only minutes of the first half remaining F.Kirk who again became provider chipped the ball over the Chellaston defence which sent J.Miles clean through and slotted the ball home for his 7th goal of the game to set himself a new record of goals scored in any single game whilst putting the boys into a 9-0 comfortable lead in what had been an excellent first half Codnor display, with other chances narrowly missing the target throughout the first half the boys would have been well into double figures.

The formation was changed at the interval from 4-4-2 to 3-5-2 and the boys took a while to time to settle down with their new system, It wasn`t until 12 minutes had been played that the boys managed to score their next goal when T.Richardson sent F.Kirk clear and he slid the ball home as the Chellaston keeper came out to close him down to put Codnor into a 10-0 lead prior to the goal 3 to 4 other chances they had were not taken but Codnor who were sensing more goals were now beginning to lose their shape as they pushed forward with every opportunity, further chances came and went for the next 10 minutes until a poor goal kick was picked up by F.Kirk from just outside the area and he punished the error with a shot from 4 yards out to complete his hat-trick which he had fully deserved putting the boys 11-0 in front , Codnor were still passing the ball very well and creating further opportunities but their clinical finishing in front of goal from the first half was now evading them , With just 5 minutes remaining R.Cooke scored Codnor`s final goal with a shot which bounced and bobbled in front of the Chellaston keeper before sneaking inside the far corner for a final score of 12-0 to Codnor - Man of The Match J.Miles (Henry).

On another day Codnor could have scored at least 20 goals but their overall performance by finishing in fine style will be one to remember for years to come for everyone concerned. Me and Wayne would like to thank Mark Childs , Simon Hind , Mick Kirk ,John Miles ,Paul , Claire Hind , Judy Kirk , Rachel Sanderson , Beverley Housley and Dave Housley and let`s not forget Wayne`s wonderful wife Jeanette Griffiths for all their hard work and help throughout what has been a fantastic season.
