BULWELL TOWN MATCH REPORT (HOME FIXTURE)

The boys made a large stride towards clinching the league title with this win and are now 11 points clear at the top of the table after completing the double over the three teams just below them. They now need to win six of their remaining ten games to finish champions come the end of the season.

Codnor went straight at Bulwell from the kick-off and found themselves camped in their opponents half and scored through J. Miles within five minutes after being set up by M. Housley to take Codnor into a 1-0 lead, minutes later their lead was extended by M. Housley after an excellent pass by F. Kirk had given him the opportunity to take the boys 2-0 up, constant pressure by Codnor kept Bulwell's defence busy as they passed their way through Bulwell who were struggling to contain an eager Codnor looking for more goals, the third Codnor goal came when a ball rebounded to J. Griffiths and he spun around to crack a shot which flew into the top left hand corner of the net giving the Bulwell keeper no chance. Bulwell struggled to find any rhythm as Codnor were playing some excellent football by keeping possession and stringing half a dozen passes together with each move, Codnor increased the lead to 4-0 with their best goal of the game when a clearance from a Bulwell defender was picked up by M. Shelton who strode forward before striking a superb shot from 25-30 yards out which left the Bulwell keeper helpless. Codnor spent most of the time in their oppositions half and minutes before the interval Codnor stretched their lead when F. Kirk's cross evaded everyone except the unmarked J. Miles who shot the ball home from close range for his second goal of the game to take the boys in 5-0 at half- time.

Second half Codnor carried on where they left off but their finishing which had been brilliant in the first half wasn't quite as pinpoint and the chances they created came and went with two shots striking the post and bouncing away to safety, Bulwell finally managed to get their first two shots on goal of the game which fortunately went narrowly wide but all credit to the boys defence for limiting Bulwell to long range efforts. The boys kept up the pressure and finally scored late on in the game when L. Wilson's pass found F. Kirk who made no mistake from close range to make the final score 6-0. This was the boys best performance so far this season considering Bulwell had managed to score 5 goals in their previous encounter with Codnor back in September only to lose 7-5 in the end, but today Codnor totally outclassed their opponents from start to finish with Bulwell knowing they could quite easily have lost by double the margin.

The boys biggest match so far this season is this weeks opponents Riverside Juniors in the quarter finals of the challenge cup at home and if they can put in another performance like today's they will have an excellent chance of progressing to the semi-final stages, but Riverside will be no pushovers and we expect a closely contested game but hopefully we will be the ones in the hat come the full time whistle.
