ADASC MATCH REPORT (AWAY FIXTURE)
Adasc needed to win in this local derby if they were to have an outside chance of clinching the
runners up spot but both teams had to firstly deal with the worst conditions thrown at them so
far this season and we were expecting that mistakes could play a vital role in the outcome of the
final result. Codnor won the flip of the coin and decided to play the first half with the blustery
wind behind them and quickly penned Adasc back inside their own half but struggled to find the
telling ball to break the deadlock for the first 15 minutes, Codnor should have taken the lead
through their leading scorer F.Kirk minutes later but his chance at the back post came to him at
speed allowing him only a split second reaction which unfortunatly went one yard wide of the goal,
Codnor up their tempo and were finally rewarded when a cross by T.Richardson picked out J.Griffiths
who struck the ball home with an excellent half volley from 2/3 yards out to take the boys into a
well deserved 1-0 lead, five minutes before half time Codnor scored a crucial second goal after
an excellent ball over the top of the Adasc defence by J.Hind which picked out J.Miles who ran
forward before shooting an unstoppable strike high over their advancing keeper to put Codnor into
a 2-0 lead, various opportunities to increase their lead further were missed and it meant the
boys didn`t take full advantage of them and they went in at the interval 2-0 up.
With the wind
and rain which had now began to fall in the boys faces it was going to be a strong test for the
Codnor defence but to Codnor`s credit it was Adasc who were the team that were being put under
the cosh as the boys began playing some lovely football considering the conditions, Adasc were
limited to mainly long range efforts which barely tested the goal mouth as the boys defenders
held firm winning the majority of their personal battles against the Adasc forward line, the
next goal was to be crucial to both sides but it was Codnor who were looking the more likely
of the two teams to strike the blow and with 15 minutes remaining Codnor finally ended any Adasc
when J.Griffiths laid the ball to J.Miles and he scored with a shot into the far corner for a
3-0 lead which the boys fully deserved for their second half display,Codnor had various other
chances to put the game out of Adasc`s reach and the closest they came was from a close range
shot by J.Griffiths which came back off the cross bar and R.Burke followed up with a shot which
looked to have crossed over the goal line but the referee nor the linesman allowed what should
have been a goal to stand.
The management were well pleased with this result as the performance
today ranked as one of their finest of the season with every player throughout the team
contributing in this excellent display and one they can be proud of.
