WHERE I WORK
I have had an extremely diverse and wonderful career (actually, several diverse and wonderful careers).
› I entered the workforce (the taxpaying one) at
seventeen at Colonial Villa Nursing Home in Silver Spring, MD working as an orderly. This was my first (but definitely not my last) encounter with health care. My big lesson from Colonial Villa:
we owe our elderly our respect, our
attention, and our love, even when we don’t feel like giving it.
›
After graduating from Gettysburg College with a
major in biology I
worked for a year at Underwriters Service of Maryland as a life insurance
underwriting assistant.
My
lesson from this job:
Sometimes our situation needs to suck just a little bit more before we change it.
