When a man who had done some work for a Columbus, Neb., woman showed up at her home one Saturday, she turned him away saying she was too busy to talk.  He soon returned to ask the woman for water to cool his overheated van.  After sending him around the side to draw it, she went back to her business.  The next thing she knew, the man had followed her back into the house with a rifle and began aiming it at her and pulling the trigger.  The terrified resident had the presence of mind to go for her handgun, killing the intruder.  (Cloumbus Telegram, Columbus, Neb., 10/29/99)

If this woman would have had a trigger lock on her handgun she probably would have not made it out of this situation as well as she did.  In stressful situations it is hard to accomplish even easy tasks.  Try to imagine this woman's fright wondering if the next time this criminal pulled the trigger on the rifle if it would had fired or not.  I can imagine her thinking , do I have enough time to even get to my handgun?
