NEWS
Awakened by noises at his back door early one morning, an 83-year-old San Francisco widower resolved to protect himself with a handgun purchased for exactly such an eventuality.  As an intruder armed with a tire iron approached his bedroom, the elderly homeowner retrieved the gun and pulled the trigger-for the first tome in 30 years.  Bought in 1948, the 38-cal. Smith & Wesson had gone largely unused for more than half a century.  It finally became the man's only hope of self-preservation, proving deadly reliable in a pinch.  The shot ended the confrontation and the invader's life.  The homeowner said later, "I never thought I would ever kill another person.  I just wanted to stay at home and mind my own business."  (San Francisco Examiner, San Francisco, Calif. 2/23/00)

Two things that I want to mention about this story out of San Francisco:
1) The man said, "I just wanted to stay home and mind my own          busuiness."  People have a right to mind their own business and feel secure in their own home.  We, as law abiding citizens, don't need to go out in order to be attacked these days.  More and more criminals are coming to us.  Home invasion robbery and burglary are becoming more common today.  Thanks to his handgun this man is able to maintain his Life, Liberty and pursuit of happiness.  If he would have had to wait for the police to get there to protect him, I am afraid this man would have not seen the light of day.
2) I believe that this 83-year-old man would probably not have been able to get a trigger lock off of the hand gun in order to protect himself in his state of distress if one were on the firearm.  The purposed manditory trigger lock law now bieng pushed by the president and some law makers, if in place at the time this man was being attacked, probably would have made it impossible for this man to protect himself.  In other words he would have been seriously injured or killed by this criminal.
