GUN! The very word, whenever mentioned, brings about strong emotion. In some it evokes fear. In others it is a word that insures subsistance or even existance, and in still others, it means family recreation.
FEAR: The law abiding citizens who fear firearms are those who generally have had little or no exposure to them. These people know that they don't have enough knowledge to be able to use firearms for pleasure or personal protection. They believe there are a lot of bad people out there that use guns to commit crimes on others so all guns should be taken away from everyone. These people live with their heads in a bubble and they don't seem to want to see that their euphoric, crimeless, gunless society will never come about. Bad people who want to get guns will always be able to. There are many, many laws across this country that make it illegal for criminals to have and use guns. But this is not stopping them from getting, having and using guns to commit their crimes. Even if these people were able to rid the world of this terrible evil, bad people would use other things as weapons to secure their ill gotten gain or to hurt people for their own satisfaction and pleasure. Don't these "fearful" people realize that getting rid of firearms will not stop bad people from doing bad things. And with this in mind, a firearms in the hands of a widowed grandmother, or anybody for that matter, who is about to be robbed, raped, beaten or murdered will at least level the playing field against these hideous pieces of human excrement. Some that fall into this "fearful" category don't believe that law abiding citizens should be "allowed" to defend themselves from criminal attack. This is contrary to the instinct of self preservation and survival that is obviously a part of every living thing on earth. But still, some are so blind that they believe that self defense is barbaric. These people are part of the problem and not part of the solution.
SUBSISTANCE AND EXISTENCE: This group of people use firearms for a number of things to insure or improve their way of life. They use guns to put meat on the table (even though some feel that with the multitude of slaughter houses we do not need to, nor should we be "allowed" to cause tremendous carnage and suffering to the other "equally important" residents of our planet and mother earth). The scope of this work cannot take the time, space or effort to prove that animals are on this planet for our pleasure and use. But they are. This group of people use firearms to protect themselves, their crops and their possessions from animals, those having both two and four legs. A firearm to a farmer or rancher is one of many valuable tools at his or her disposal. They are also valuable in rural, suburban and city life. They help protect us from two legged beasts who prowl this wonderful country of ours looking to victimize someone weaker than themselves. These animals need to be stopped in their tracks. Law abiding citizens need a tool at hand, ready in an instant, to thwart the efforts of criminals. When a good person is awakened during the early hours of the morning by the sound of a window or door being broken into and every second is so crucial for survival, 911 is nowhere near quick enough to insure that resident life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. In times like these, where our lives rely on life saving measures in seconds, the police, in most cases, will not make it there in time to "save us". It has also been decided in court that the police don't even have an obligation to protect us when our lives are in danger. So we are, for the most part, on our own. There are television crews that ride along with police in order to produce exciting, real life police action T.V. programs. There has been times on these programs where the officers congratulate each other for capturing a murderer. Indeed it is a good thing when these animals can be caught, convicted and caged, but the victim is still dead and the family and friends are still devastated. These specks of human debris need to be removed from society either by execution or being locked up where they can terrorize only other terrorists like themselves.
FAMILY RECREATION: To these people the word gun brings a warm feeling to their heart because it means spending time with the ones they love doing something that is fun and exciting. There are not many things in our society today that can bring parents and teens together like the shooting sports. When moral, ethical parents spend meaningful and quality time with their kids the result is tremendous. Not only is there the fun of shooting, (where parents teach their kids), but there is a lot of time sitting in the lawn chairs or around the campfire where the ethics and morals of the parents can be instilled in their children. Let's face it, when a family is out shooting there are no T.V.'s, telephones or other distractions and a positive, non-forced family time is the result. The more time a child spends with his or her parents and other ethical adults the more benefit there is to the child's life. The less time that a child spends with his or her own family the more time they spend with others their own age. It is these times with their peers that our children are at best stagnating or at worst digressing and getting into trouble. The "social lives" of our kids has been over emphasized and has caused many of societies woes. So anything that parents can do to encourage healthy, productive family time and togetherness is beneficial to the individual, the family and society.
CONCLUSION: So concluding, the word gun has a wide and varied effect on different people. It can cause fear in the ignorant that leads to degradation and devastation of society. It can be a tool for those who provide for and protect their families. It can produce pride in parents knowing that it was used as a tool and helped shape their children to be positive, contributing men and women for the 21st century. And, it can bring hapiness to the children knowing that their parents cared for them more than anything else. So much in fact that they spent so much time with them teaching them things that they can pass down from generation to generation and thus having a positive, healthy effect on society. |
