Bukit Batok Secondary School's Chinese Orchestra was formed 11 years ago in 1990. Initially, it had a mere membership of about 30 members only.

In 1992, we took part in the Singapore Youth Festival at national level and was awarded a Certificate of Distinction! This came as a big surprise to us as we were still a relatively young and inexperienced group of musicians who had never received any proper training in music before. This award is a great boost to our morale because we have put in alot of hours and effort practicing for this competition.

Since then, our membership has steadily increased to over a hundred comprising of both the upper and lower secondary pupils, thus, making the Chinese Orchestra one of the largest ECA group in Bukit Batok Secondry School.

In 1994, we went overseas to Kuching, Sarawak. Everyone were estactic because this was the first trip overseas for most of the members. We were there for a joint performance with the Kuching Youth Chinese Orchestra as part of their annual Charity Show and Culture Exchange Project. The objective of this concert is to raise funds for the educational projects of the chinese community in Sarawak. We performed to full-house for a two day period. We were even invited to perform at the Sarawak Cultural Village where we put up a Erhu ensemble - Fong Shou Yang Ge(Rice Planting) and Qi Zhe Ma'Er Shou Bian Jiang(Horseback riding at the Frontiers) and a Dizi solo - Mai Cai(Vegetable Market).
