The Adventures of Cobalt

Chapter One

White, fluffy clouds filled the blue afternoon sky as gusts of wind repeatedly blew the teenage girls hair into her face. Again, she pushed it back out and continued typing at her laptop. Looking up, the girl gazed out across the desert before her. The faint, lazy sound of a helicopter wafted her way as she continued to type. A small bird that was hopping around the base of the cliff quickly flew away.

The sound of propeller blades began to fill her world, making her look up, now mildly annoyed from the audible intrusion. Just as she was shutting down her laptop and standing up, maniacal laughter filled the air as the helicopter she had been hearing appeared in front of her. A mechanical hand reached out from the aircraft. The hand in question was about within an arms distance away before instinct took over and she ran.

Looking back behind her, the hand smashed into the rock face she had been lying against moments before and took a chunk of the rock with it. Turning back around to continue running, a second mechanical hand appeared from nowhere and grabbed her. More laughter emanated from the direction of the helicopter as it took off into the sky.

"A minicon and human hostage, Megatron will surely reward me!" the helicopter itself cried out, startling the teenager more than she had been previously.

As they flew higher, she began to get dizzy from the altitude. Her vision was quickly fading into unconsciousness as the altitude continued to increase. Another aircraft quickly approaching was the last thing she saw.

"How is she?"

"I think shes waking up."

Vision slowly returning, the outlines of several people came into focus. The girl groaned lightly as she sat up.

"That was quite a fall you had, if Jetfire hadnt caught you, youve been flat as a tortilla," one of the boys around her stated. She looked up at him, noticing he was of Latino genealogy.

"Fall? Jet who?" she questioned.

"Jetfire," the only girl among the group answered, pointing over her shoulder. She looked; a large, white, red and gold robot sat contentedly against the side of the same rocky cliff she had been snatched from. It waved its fingers at her, causing her jaw to drop.

Another voice caught her attention: "So who are you?" a red headed boy asked.

"Me? Im Cobalt," she replied, attempting to stand up, but nearly falling over.

"Whoa, hey! Careful," another unfamiliar voice came from the group as someone caught her. A sandy brown-haired boy grinned at little too happily at Cobalt, making her a little weary of him. "Im Billy," he introduced himself.

"Hi," Cobalt replied curtly.

The others introduced themselves as Carlos, Alexis, Rad, and Fred, explaining a bit about who and what Jetfire was and how they tied in with the race of robots called transformers.

"Wow, I always believed there was life out there, but this is amazing!" Cobalt admitted.

Alexis suddenly acted as if she remembered something. "Are these yours?" she asked, holding Cobalts laptop and backpack. Alexis had been holding them the whole time, but she hadnt noticed. "We found them near the coordinates of the minicon."

"Yes, they are," Cobalt joyfully replied as she relieved Alexis of them. "I completely forgot about them!" Placing her backpack onto her back, she looked back at Jetfire for the umpteenth time.

He was simply amazing to behold, so very big, and he had wings too. Another robot that stood to his left caught her attention. It was much smaller in size, about that of a human so it was probably a minicon, and it had wings also. Curious, Cobalt walked over to it. The minicon beeped something at her, but she didnt understand.

"I dont understand them either, Cobalt," Jetfire addressed her, causing her to jump. "Thats your name, right?"

She swallowed her nervousness. "Yeah," Cobalt confirmed.

Jetfire was about to say something else to her when she looked at her watch.

"Im really sorry, but I didnt realize how late it already was," Cobalt told all of them, as they had walked over with her. "I must be getting home, it was nice meeting all of you," she called back to them, running in the direction of her house.

The rest of them watched her leave. "You dont think I frightened her, do you?" Jetfire asked Alexis and the others.

"I dont really think so, it is getting quite late, after all," answered Alexis. "We should be getting back as well, or at least Ill be going home," she looked at the rest of the boys.

"Oh man," Fred exclaimed suddenly, "I still need to do my homework," he then gasped, "and Ive got a quiz over European countries tomorrow!"

"Well, youd better go home and study, dude," Carlos suggested.

Fred sighed, "And I still cant figure out what the capital of stenstein is."

The other four looked at him. "Theres no such country as stenstein," Rad explained, the others nodding their heads in agreement.

Jetfire stood up, "Well, if you kids are heading home too, Im gonna get back to work. You know, doing the usual, target practice, desk work, recharging," he trailed off. "Bye!" he waved back to them and left. Walking back into the city, the kids bid each other farewell before going their separate ways.

Cobalt snuggled under her covers that night as she reflected on the days events. Inevitably, her thoughts trailed back to the Autobot called Jetfire. Curiosity filled her, and she wanted to know more about the transformers.

On the other side of her shared room, Sarahs foot twitched a few times, partly kicking off the covers. Cobalt snickered internally as she watched her friends actions.

Thoughts once again returning, Cobalt hoped she might be able to meet the others, and see Jetfire again.
