Green Olive Tree - Untitled EP

I know most of the people who are reading this have never heard of Green Olive Tree. Im sure you are asking yourself what is a Green Olive Tree? Well I am going to tell you. It is one of the foremost indie rock bands in the market today. And yes I am going to tell you about them. They are from our very own grand state of Arkansas. Just down the road in the fine city of Cabot. They are a band that only has half of the original members left. None of these guys are college graduates or even hold down a full time job. Most people would consider them losers and worthless to society. However, they are just making great music. With founding members Justin Alexander and Brett Latimer no longer in the picture, Green Olive Tree, or G.O.T. to their fans, produce a new spectacular piece of music. Chris Latimer and Jon Dodson press forward to create a powerful new record. Their new 3 song self-titled EP has amazing guitar riffs, great lyrics, and impressive vocals. In comparison to their Syntax Records Butt Rock worship album (Things I Tried to Be), as earlier reviewed by HM Magazine, this EP displays a more mature and more developed G.O.T. In the company of Latimer and Dodson are new bassist Andy Greenfield and drummer Josh Dougan. These two gentlemen pick up where their predecessors left off without losing a beat. The attention seizing intros, numerous catchy hooks, and notable transitions throughout the EP fuse together the new stylings of Green Olive Tree. Latimer and Dodson were unable to produce great harmonies on Things but have finally found their niche, creating harmonies that are comparable to the likings of Jimmy Eat World or Open Hand. This band has come a long way from their humble, Arkansas beginnings. My only problem with this EP is that it is only has 3 songs! That is less then twelve minutes of music. I mean, great music like this should be enjoyed in lengths. Anyone that likes Jimmy Eat World, Open Hand, or wants to listen to something that isnt being played on either the top 40 radio or TRL should find this band and buy their new untitled EP. These guys are currently touring the West Coast in hopes of gaining a major label bid.
