Historic Crab Orchard Events
The Coalfield Education Endeavor has support the H.C.O.M
with an American Civil War program since the Spring of 2000. This programs
meets specific Virginia Standards of Learning (S.O.L.'s) and allows both
the H.C.O.M. and the C.E.E. to meet heir goals and objectives. In addition
to the American Civil War programs their are Apprentice Week and special
events that receive the support of the resources of the Coalfield Education
Endeavor.
Johnny Reb and Billy Yank never get tired, wanna quit or eat too
much! Nancy Peery is overseeing things at the Crab Orchard Museum on
a Hotttt day.
This is a typical setup for the American Civil War program with Don Wimmer
a volunteer helping on the side.
The Apprentice Camp are getting ready to drill and protect their homesteads
in the pre-Civil War times.
Frontier girls ask questions about the basics of militia life that
their men had to endure.
Home schoolers come in and see the displays.
Also at Apprentice Camp week they can make bullets outta led.
They made buckshot, .45 round ball and .58 minnie ball size lead bullets.
