| Who are we? We are both 2nd year university students studying Exercise Science at the Australian Catholic University (ACU). We both have an interest in Coaching and the science behind it, and chose to create the PCP as part of one of our units, Exercise Psychology. The unit is supervised by Dr. Stephen Burke. Ben Rowse I consider myself to be a hard-working full-time university student, and part-time competitive cricketer who has a love for coaching. Sports I am currently involved with and have previously been involved with include: - Basketball (10 years) - Cricket (8 years) - Oztag & Touch Football (1 year) - Rugby Union (1 year) - Indoor Cricket/indoor Netball/indoor soccer (5 years) I have been coaching for 5 years now, with Level 1 accreditations in Basketball, Cricket and Softball. My forte has been Basketball, coaching numerous teams in MWBA (Manly Warringah Basketball Association) and each having high levels of success. But my ultimate goal is to study and practice in the field of Biomechanics, one day aiming to work with the greatest coaching facility in the world, the Commonwealth Bank Cricket Academy....but that's only if I'm not training there :) My aim in designing the PCP, along with Ben #2, is to provide coaches who consider themselves to be above the average amatuer coach, an opportunity to further their team's success with an educational resource that assists them in identifying negative and positive aspects in their own coaching style and technique. Hopefully resulting in greater performance and greater psychological health in their players. Ben Nowlan I am from Wingham, NSW, a little country town with a small population of around 3000 people. I lived in and schooled in Wingham until I was 18, at which I ventured to Sydney to pursue a few goals in Rugby League. I played RL in Sydney prior to long-term injury problems. Subsequent to this, participating in sport has been a minor thing in my life, but my love for it hasn't wavered. Leading to me to spend my time studying at ACU for my degree in Exercise Science. I chose this degree because my other passion has always been coaching, you know what they say "those who can't do....teach". Specifically I would like to coach Rugby League or athletics, and as I have done previously on a voluntary basis, I am now aware of the demands and commitments in being a sports coach. There's my motivation for studying Ex. Sc. - I can identify issues and provide resources for others coaches to access, learn from and improve themselves. My ultimate goal is to be a leader in the coaching field, and my satisfaction will eventuate in helping other coaches maximise their own potential. |
