ABOUT 8TH GRADE SOCIAL STUDIES
8th grade Social Studies is the study of American History from 1865 to the present. Our major units of study are: Reconstruction/Civil Rights, Settling the West, Industrialization, Immigration, Progressivism, Overseas Expansion, World War I, America Between the Wars (includes the Roaring 20's, Great Depression and the New Deal), World War II, the Cold War, and Modern American History.

Tests and projects follow each unit- projects allow for creativity and even fun while at the same time address state standards and mandates. You may be creating a newspaper on the Civil Rights movement, building models of some of greatest inventions the world  has ever seen, conducting a forensic investigation of the explosion of the Maine, building Depression-era toys, writing a collection of memoirs from WWII, interviewing presidents, and more- the door is always open to new projects!

Current Events discussions also play a major role in the class- you never know what is going to happen (kind of like the class!).

Time is also spent in preparing for the NYS Assessment test, studying various types of multiple choice questions and writing DBQ's (document based questions).

The classroom is set up in a casual way, with a museum-type set up (lots of artifacts from history to create a very cool SS atmosphere). You are going to like being here!
