ABOUT MR. PARRETT
In a galaxy far, far away, just a bit after the dinosaurs left, Mr. Parrett was born in Queens, NY. At the age of 6, we loaded up our wagons and, bucking a historical trend, we moved east to Hauppauge, which has since become the center of my universe. In 1978, Hauppauge sprung me for a few years and I went to Hofstra University. I was President of the student government and a pre-law major, so naturally, the next step was Social Studies teacher.

In 1986, as the Mets were winning their last World Series (I'm a Met fan), Hauppauge called me for a teaching job. It took some time to be able to call all of my former teachers by their first names, but I'm coming around. In the fall of 1988, the best job in the Hauppauge school district became available to me- SS teacher at the Middle School. The rest is history.

Although I never ran track, I coached the Girls Varsity Track team for 13 years (28 school records broken during that time). In spite of my rather pathetic performance as a member of HHs's 1976 Cross Country team, I have coached the Varsity Cross Country team since 1987 and have won 8 League and/or Conference championships in that time. This also sparked my interest in my own running and got me to the starting line (and ,thankfully, the finish line) of the NYC Marathon in 2000 and 2001 and currently training for NYC 2003 (I let the Kenyans win because they really need the money more than me.).

I have also been playing bass guitar in a variety of rock bands all over the tri-state area for the past 25 years- a surviving link to my fleeting youth!

I have been married to Mrs. Parrett since 1993 and we have three really cool kids. I have been a History and news geek since my days in the cave, and I think my enthusiasm for the subject I teach comes through in my class each day, as long as the coffee is ready!
