���Wilton's Buttercream Icing
1/2 cup butter or margarine, cold and firm*
1/2 cup vegetable shortening
4 cups sifted confectioner's sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla
2 tablespoons cool milk or cream**
Place butter and shortening in small bowl. �Beat with mixer until creamy. �Add sugar 1/2 cup at a time and beat after each addition. �Add vanilla, then milk or cream and beat well again. �Yields 3 cups of icing.
* Substitute all-vegetable shortening and butter flavoring for pure white icing and stiffer decorating consistency.
** To thin for use as cake icing, add additional 2 tablespoons milk and beat well. �To stiffen, use more confectioner's sugar or chill in refrigerator.
