Notes and quotes

“With the skill they have offensively, Illinois will challenge us in a way that we haven’t been challenged yet,” Michigan coach Lloyd Carr said.

Illinois is averaging 600 yards in total offense over the past two games.  In his last two starts Illinois quarterback, John Beutjer has compiled 703 yards and eight touchdowns.  His primary weapons on offense are two talented wide receivers.  Their names are Brandon Lloyd and Walter Young. The matchup worth watching is when Brandon Lloyd is covered by Marlin Jackson.

Although a sophomore, Jackson is already being compared to a former Wolverine standout Charles Woodson. Jackson helped limit sensational wide receiver from Washington Reggie Williams to no touchdowns.  He had 6 pass break ups in that game.  Brandon Lloyd hasn’t faced a good corner like Jackson this season so it will be interesting as to how this plays out.

Another potential great matchup will be sophomore wide receiver Braylon Edwards versus cornerbacks Eugene Wilson and Christian Morton.  Edwards leads the Wolverines in every receiving statistical category.
