        Listed in the tax list of 1845-1846 as having 125 acres in Horry County, SC.

        Listed in the 1850 US Census, Palatka, 20th Division, Putnam County, FL, Benjamin Granger is listed as head of household, farmer and age 40. Also listed were Ann age 33, born in NC, John age 13, Elizabeth 11, Cela age 9, Merido age 8, Margerett age 7, Absolom age 4 and Hugh age 2, all born in SC.

        Bureau of Land Management... Meredith Grainger of Alachua County, FL, purchased Lots numbers 3, 4, and 5 of Section thirteen in Township 9, south of Range 22, east in the District of Lands, Florida containing 99.80 acres of land. May 1, 1855. Certificate #1951.

Also listed is Ann, age 40, born in NC, John age 22 farm laborer, Elisabeth age 21, Cecillia age 18, Meredith age 16, Margreth female age 13, Absolom age 12, Hugh J. age 10, Alex age 8, Sarah age 7, Jos H. age 4, and William F. age 2. Sarah, Jos and William were born in Florida, all the rest in SC.

       Listed in the 1900 US census, 25th Precinct, Putnam County, FL as age 49, clerk in grocery store and having been married 12 years; wife Emma F., age 35,  never having any children. Also listed was Joseph H. Grainger, brother, age 45, born May 1855, also clerk in grocery store, and single.

       Listed in the 1920 US Census, Palatka Township, Putnam County, FL, A. was listed as head of household, age 70 and no occupation. Wife Emma was listed as age 52. Alex was listed as born in Florida and both parents in South Carolina. Emma was listed as born in Florida and parents in Ohio.

       Listed in the 1930 US Census, Holly Hill Township, District 57, Volusia County, FL., Alex is listed as head of household, owning own home, $4500 in personal value, age 80, married 42 years and no occupation listed. Wife Emma F. was listed as age 64 and married 42 years. Alex listed as born in Florida and Emma in Kansas.

        2.  John Allen² Grainger (Meredith Benjamin ***¹) was born September 26, 1837 in South Carolina, and died August 18, 1910 in Palatka, Putnam County, FL.  He married Jane E. Unknown Abt. 1875.  She was born January 1844 in South Carolina.

        Florida PVT Co B & Regt. Fla. Cav. Conferate States Army.

        Listed in the 1900 US census, 13th Precinct, Putnam County, FL, as age 62, married 34 years, and worked at the Hotel Kimball. Wife Jane E. age 56, having 7 children with 4 still living, Allie or Ollie, daughter age 23, single and a school teacher, John S. age 22 and laborer, and Bessie J. age 16. Both John, Jane and all their parents were born in South Carolina.
