BACKGROUND

The VF-19M Marine Blazer is the U.N.S.M. production-line version of Shinsei Industries' YF-19 AVF Prototype which won the Project Super Nova design contest of 2040.

Several design changes have taken place since the VF-19 went into I.O.C. The GU-15 gun pod was modified into the U.N.S.M. XGU-116 Multipurpose Gun pod. The wing lasers, and leg missile pallets were kept as the main weapons for the VF-19M, but the entire head unit was redesigned based on the S version, and a group of four variable-beam lasers were added to complement the single head pulse laser on the YF-19 model. The VF-19M, as with the other variants, of course fully compatible with the Super Nova Fold Booster and can execute individual folds like its prototype predecessor could.

NOTES:
  1. Destroying the head of the VF-19 will knock out the mecha's major sensor systems, including all of the optics systems (infrared, nightvision, thermal). Radar and communications will be unaffected.
  2. Depleting the MDC of the main body will destroy the mecha. The pilot and cockpit section/escape pod will be automatically ejected from the doomed fighter before it explodes by the mecha's main computer.
  3. The pinpoint barrier shield regenerates at a rate of 50 MDC per round. Even if completely destroyed the shield will regenerate within 2 melee rounds. The shield is usually generated on the right arm of the VF-19.

VF-19S and VF-19M version equipped with two 78,950 kg FF-2550J engines. Two 2-dimensional independentent convergent/divergent exhaust vents mounted on engines for greater maneuverability and V/STOL performance. In addition, several Pratt & Whitney HMM-7 high-maneuverability vernier thrusters are mounted on the wingtips, vertical stabilizers, nose, and other key locations for added performance. Additional thruster options include FAST packs and the external fold generator developed for use with Project Super Nova.

WEAPON SYSTEMS:

  1. MAULER REB-30G ANTI-AIRCRAFT PULSE LASER:The VF-19M mounts a single pulse laser for use in air combat skirmishes and for defensive purposes. The laser is mounted on the head of the mecha in soldier mode, and is located in the central dorsal section of the main body pointed rearward in fighter and gerwalk modes. The laser can only fire to the REAR of the fighter in these modes; it cannot be turned to fire along another arc.

  2.
    1. PRIMARY PURPOSE: Anti-aircraft
    2. SECONDARY PURPOSE: Anti-missile/defensive
    3. RANGE: 4000 feet (1200 m)
    4. DAMAGE: 2D4 M.D.
    5. RATE OF FIRE: The laser can be fired in rapid pulses up to 4 blasts per round. A rapid fire blast counts as a burst of up to 4 shots.
    6. PAYLOAD: Effectively Unlimited.
  3. ANTI-AIRCRAFT LASERS (4, VF-19S & VF-19M Only):The command and Marine Corps versions of the VF-19 are equipped with head lasers similar to those used on the old VF-1 Valkyrie for use in air combat skirmishes and other defensive purposes. The four lasers are mounted on the head of the mecha in soldier mode, and is located in the central dorsal section of the main body pointed rearward in fighter and gerwalk modes. Unlike the lasers mounted on the VF-11, these lasers can be turned to point in front of, above, or behind the mecha in fighter and gerwalk modes. However, the head cannot be turned in these modes, so they can be use only to fire at targets directly IN FRONT OF, ABOVE, or BEHIND the fighter (cannot fire at targets to the left or right). The lasers can also not fire below the Blazer in fighter or gerwalk mode.

  4. NOTE: Under certain curcumstances these lasers can be fired in conjunction with the Pulse Laser as a single attack

    1. PRIMARY PURPOSE: Anti-aircraft
    2. SECONDARY PURPOSE: Anti-missile/defensive
    3. RANGE: 4000 feet (1200 m)
    4. DAMAGE: 1D6 M.D. per laser.
    5. RATE OF FIRE: The laser can be fired as a continuous beam, or in rapid pulses up to 4 blasts per round. A rapid fire blast counts as a burst of up to 4 shots.
    6. PAYLOAD: Effectively Unlimited.
  5. MAULER REB-23 LASER GUNS:Two semi-fixed laser guns are mounted in the wings of the VF-19, near the base of the wing where it connects to the main body. These lasers can be fired in any mode (the beams exit the hip-mounted wing units in soldier mode) but can only be aimed along the front arc of the mecha (max angle is about 45 degrees in any direction from the nose).

  6.
    1. PRIMARY PURPOSE: Anti-mecha
    2. SECONDARY PURPOSE: Air-to-ground strafing runs
    3. RANGE: 4000 feet (1200 m)
    4. DAMAGE: 1D4x10 M.D. per laser.
    5. RATE OF FIRE: The laser can be fired in rapid pulses up to 4 blasts per round. A rapid fire blast counts as a burst of up to 4 shots.
    6. PAYLOAD: Effectively Unlimited.

    7.
  7. HOWARD XGU-116 EXTERNAL GUN POD: The main weapon of the VF-19M is the Marine Corps Multipurpose version of the GU-15 Gun Pod produced by Howard Industries. The gun pod is mounted on a special hardpoint below the Excalibur in fighter mode, and is hand-held in gerwalk and soldier modes. Like the GU-15 it uses clips of ammo instead of a self-contained supply in the barrel of the gun. The new gun pod brings back the armor piercing bayonet found on the GU-15's predecessor, the VF-11's MPGP. Two spare clips for the XGU-116 are mounted on the back of the VF-19M's bulletproof shield; replacing a clip takes two melee actions and can only be done in Gerwalk or Soldier mode. The large bulge at the end of the New MPGP contains a slewable laser ranger and IIR seeker that provides high speed ranging updates on the selected target and allows a +2 strike bonus. This is similar in concept to the gun aiming system of the old Mig-29's.

  8.
    1. PRIMARY PURPOSE: Assault
    2. SECONDARY PURPOSE: Anti-mecha
    3. RANGE: 4000 feet (1200 m)
    4. DAMAGE: Does 4D6 M.D. for a short burst, 1D6x10 M.D. for a long burst, or 2D6x10 M.D. for a full melee burst. Bayonet does 1D4x10 per strike.
    5. RATE OF FIRE: Equal to the number of combined attacks of the pilot.
    6. PAYLOAD: Each clip holds 400 rounds, equal to 40 short bursts, 20 long bursts, or 10 full melee bursts.

  9. TWO INTERNAL LITTLE ROCK LAUNCH SYSTEMS in lower leg/engine-pod bays for 24 high manoeuvrability micro missiles (VF-19F, VF-19S, VF-19M only) or six intermediate range high manoeuvrability missiles each (Pallet can be alternately equipped with other weapon packs). When armed, the missile launcher assembly rises out of the leg units, allowing all 24 missiles to be fired at once if necessary. The missiles can be fired in any mode; fighter, gerwalk, or soldier. Any type of mini-missile can be used in the launchers, but usually only the Bifors high-maneuverability mini-missiles are used. Alternately six Intermediate Range High Manoeuverability Missiles or one LRM can be used.
    1. PRIMARY PURPOSE: Assault
    2. MISSILE TYPES: Any type of standard UN Spacy Mini-Missile, or the new Bifors high-maneuverability mini-missiles. Or other pallet systems.
    3. RANGE: 1 mile (1.6 km).
    4. DAMAGE: 1D4x10 M.D.
    5. RATE OF FIRE: Volleys of 1-24 missiles per launcher, per round. One volley counts as one attack. If necessary, all 48 missiles (!) can be fired in a single round by expending two attacks.
    6. BONUSES: Varies.
    7. PAYLOAD: 24 HMMM Mk.6/MM's or 6 IRHMM/SRM's or 1 LRM or MRHMM per launcher; 48/12/2 totals.

  10. OPTION OF TWO SPACE/ATMOSPHERIC HMMM Mk. 6 FAST( Fuel And Sensor Tactical ) Pack weapon units mounted on rear dorsal section in Fighter mode or on the sides of shoulders in GERWALK and Battroid modes. These are standard issue to the Marine Blazer due to the fact that the Space Marines often operate independant of normal fleet cover and often in the most dangerous of combat environments. The missiles can be fired in any mode; fighter, gerwalk, or soldier. Any type of mini-missile can be used in the launchers, but usually only the Bifors high-maneuverability mini-missiles are used.

  11. NOTE 1: Thes units are normally used in conjunction with side-rear/leg mounted fuel countermeasures units, that contain 10 chaff and 10 flare each, for a total of 20 chaff and 20 flare. Extra fuel is also loaded here and will allow the mecha to travel much farthur than normal under conventional power. Fold booster asside.
NOTE 2: Use of the missile/booster units precludes the use of a Fold Booster.
NOTE 3: Use of the missile/booster units provides an additional +1 to parry/dodge and adds 20% to the speed/delta-V of the Blazer. These new generation Space/Atmospheric FAST Packs are designed to perform equally well in space and in an Earth type environment.
    1. PRIMARY PURPOSE: Assault
    2. MISSILE TYPES: Any type of standard UN Spacy Mini-Missile, or the new Bifors high-maneuverability mini-missiles.
    3. RANGE: 1 mile (1.6 km).
    4. DAMAGE: 1D4x10 M.D.
    5. RATE OF FIRE: Volleys of 1-4 missiles per launcher, per attack. One volley counts as one attack. If necessary, all 32 missiles (!) can be fired in a single round by expending four attacks.
    6. BONUSES:Depends on missile type.
    7. PAYLOAD: 16 missiles per launcher; 32 total. The conformal fuel tanks also offer countermeasures stores, see Note 1.

  12. BODY/WING HARD POINTS:Two fixed hard points are mounted on the fuselage of the VF-19, and an additional two hardpoints are mounted on each wing and one per wing-tip for a total of 8 hardpoints on the fighter. These hardpoints can be used to hold a variety of different ordinance types, including long, medium, or short range missiles, or Bifors' intermediate-range high-maneuverability (IRHM) missiles. One long range, one IRHM, 3 medium range, or 5-15 short range missiles can be mounted per hardpoint. Usually long range or IRHM missiles are used. A variety of other stores may be loaded as well, such as bombs, ECM pods, ect... See the Macross Internet RPG Center Custom Rules page for more detail.

  13. NOTE: Due to the location of the hard points, all external stores except the wingtip rails must be cleared before the VF-19 may convert into soldier mode. For this reason the hard point missiles are usually fired within the first few moments of an attack.

  14. HOWARD PBS-03F PIN-POINT BARRIER SYSTEM:The VF-19 is equipped with a new mecha-scale pinpoint barrier system for defense. The system can generate a single pinpoint barrier that can be moved anywhere on the mecha and used as a shield against incoming attacks. The barrier provides 100 MDC of protection, and regenerates at a rate of 50 MDC per round when damaged. Even if destroyed by combined attacks, the shield will regenerate itself within 2 rounds. In order to use the shield, the pilot must make a successful parry roll to intercept an incoming attack.

  15.
    1. Primary Purpose: Defense
    2. Protection: 100 MDC total
    3. Regeneration Rate: 50 MDC per round.
    4. Size: The barrier can be up to 10 ft (3 m) in diameter.
    5. Duration: Unlimited.
  1. HAND TO HAND COMBAT: If necessary, the VF-19 can engage in melee combat rather than use a weapon. The AVF is extremely agile and can execute most typical hand to hand combat moves, such as punches, jump kicks, leap attacks, rolling with impacts, etc. NOTE: Because of the VF-19M's enhaced strength and added armor protection, it gains a +2 to HTH damage rolls
DAMAGE:
    1. Restrained Punch: 1D6 M.D.
    2. Full Strength Punch: 3D6 M.D.
    3. "Booster" Punch: 5D6 M.D. (counts as two attacks)
    4. Tear or Pry with Hands: 2D6 M.D.
    5. Kick: 2D4 M.D.
    6. Leap Kick: 3D6 M.D.
    7. Body Flip/Throw: 1D6 M.D.
    8. Body Block/Tackle: 2D6 M.D.
    9. Stomp: 2D6 M.D. (only effective against small objects)

STANDARD EQUIPMENT FOR THE VF-19:

NOTE: Since the Excalibur's stealth capability is a system and not a feature of the design, it can be damaged or destroyed. Once the mecha has lost half of its main body MDC, there is a 50% chance that the stealth system will fail every time the main body of the craft is hit. Once the stealth system has failed, it will not work again until repaired at a UN Spacy base.
