VF-14U1 SUPER HUNTER
HEAVY TACTICAL VARIABLE Fighter

Layout style and info adapted from DAVE DEITRICH ([email protected])
And amended by JOHN HOLCOMB ([email protected]) for the -U1 variant
Background info provided by the MACROSS ONLINE COMPENDIUM

BACKGROUND

The VF-14 Heavy Tactical Variable Fighter was the first successful mecha design produced by General Galaxy, a new aerospace company competing against Shinsei Industries for dominance of the military mecha industry. The VF-14 was submitted in response to the need for a Valkyrie that could carry more ordinance and greater firepower than the then-standard VF-4 Lightning III Valkyrie, but could hold its own in mecha-to-mecha combat unlike the VA-3 Invader Valkyrie bomber. The new Fighter could absorb tremendous amounts of damage, far more than the VF-4 could, and had a greater variety of onboard weaponry, though the VA-3 still outclassed it in terms of ordinance capability. The VF-14 was approved by the UN Spacy in 2021 and was stationed in moderate numbers on most bases and colony missions by 2025. However, in 2030 due to budget cuts and restructuring in UN Spacy forces the VF-14 was phased out along with the older VF-4 in favor of the cheaper and more versatile VF-11 Thunderbolt from Shinsei Industries, which could be manufactured in greater numbers.

This would have been the end of the VF-14's history were it not for the rise of the Varuata empire. In 2025 the Megaroad-13 colony mission was taken over by the Protodevilin, a race of extra-dimensional beings of great power who had been imprisoned in the Varuata system since the fall of the Stellar Republic some 380, 000 years ago. The Protodevilin enslaved the colonists, forming the Varuata empire, and began building a large war fleet using the resources of the Megaroad-13. The Varuata used several UN Spacy mecha designs, including the VF-14, as a basis for their own combat mecha, eventually leading to the birth of the FZ-109 Elgerzorene, the main combat mecha of the Varuata forces. When the Varuata encountered and declared war on the Macross 7 colony mission in 2045, the VF-11 Thunderbolts of the Macross 7 met the enhanced versions of the VF-14 in combat and were initially outclassed by them. To the shame of the Macross 7 Intelligence Staff no one made the connection between the FZ-109 and the VF-14 until several weeks into the war, causing great initial confusion as to who the Varuata were and how they possessed technology that was greatly similar to UN Spacy Valkyries.

Production of the Elgerzorene stopped when the Varuata were defeated at the end of the Macross 7/Protodevilin war in 2046. There are still a fair number of these Fighters still unaccounted for, probably roaming the galaxy in surviving Varuata fleets looking for UN Spacy targets. The VF-14 has not been produced since 2030 and can now only be found in museums, air shows, and some reserve forces on the frontiers of human space.

    2. Depleting the MDC of the main body will destroy the mecha. The pilot and cockpit section/escape pod will be automatically ejected from the doomed mecha before it explodes by the mecha's main computer.
    3. The PPB shield regenerates at a rate of 50 MDC per melee round, even if completely destroyed the shield will regenerate within 2 melee rounds. The shield is usually generated on the Super Hunters right arm.
    4. THE External fold Booster Developed for Use with Project Super Nova. This unit becomes Non-Functional(but Repairable) after suffering 25 MD damage. It is rendered useless (Beyond Repair) when its MDC is totally depleted.

Several additional Pratt & Whitney HMM-7 high-maneuverability vernier thrusters for additional mobility are mounted at key positions along the mecha's hull.

    WEAPON SYSTEMS (for VF-14U-1 only):

    1. Fixed Micro-Missile Launchers(8): The VF-14U1 replaces the Hunter's Original SRMs with Little Rock Micro-Missile Launchers in a hope to increase the VF's combat endurance. Four of these Launchers are mounted on each engine nacelle/shoulder section of the mecha. The Payload of each launcher is 15 micro-missiles and each can fire 1-3 missiles per round (including reload time) so volleys of 8-24 missiles are possible. HMMMs are standard issue, but any UN Spacy micro missile types may be used if available.
    2. Leg Mounted Rockwell Medium Range Missile Launchers(2): Each leg of the VF-14U1 is equipped with a concealed missile launcher bay that can hold up to 8 medium-range missiles. When armed the missile launcher assembly rises out of the leg units allowing all 8 missiles to be fired at once if necessary. These missiles may be fired in any mode. Any type on UN Spacy MRM may be used (except the new Intermediate Range High Maneuverability Missile) , High Explosive is standard issue.
    3. Head Lasers: The VF-14U1 mounts a pair of high-power lasers for defensive and utilitarian use, similar to the ones mounted on the original VF-1 Valkyrie. The lasers are mounted on the head of the mecha in Soldier mode and on the bottom of the aircraft behind the cockpit in Fighter/GERWALK modes.
    4. Chest Mounted Mauler REB-23 Laser Guns: The Super Hunter is equipped with 2 semi-fixed laser guns for use in medium and short range combat against mecha and ground forces. These lasers are identical to the ones Mounted on the VF-19 Excalibur. They are located in the lower chest of the mecha in Soldier mode and on the rear fuselage in Fighter/GERWALK mode. These cannon have a 45 degree arc of fire in all modes (to the rear in Fighter/GERWALK and to the Front in Soldier.).
    5. Fore Arm Mounted Mauler REB-22B Laser Guns(2): 2 semi-fixed laser gun clusters are mounted on the VF-14U1. In Fighter mode these laser clusters are mounted rearward near the wing hard points. In GERWALK/Soldier modes they are mounted in the lower arms of the mecha. These are Dual Port lasers (identical to the VF-22 Sturmvogel II). In Fighter mode they have a 30 degree arc to the front and rear of the craft. In GERWALK/Soldier modes they can be aimed in any direction simply by moving the mecha's arm.
    6. Body/Wing Hard Points: The VF-14U1 is equipped with six fixed hard points for missiles, bombs, and other types of ordinance. One hard point is on each wing of the aircraft and four are mounted on the underside of the main body. 1 LRM, 1 MRHMM, 3 MRMs, 3 SRHMMs, 5 SRMs, or 6 bombs may be carried per hard point. LRMs or MRHMMs are normally standard issue.
    7. Howard GU-15 Multi-Purpose Gun Pod(2):These gun pods are mounted on a special hard point below the VF-14U1 in Fighter mode and are hand held in GERWALK and Soldier modes. The GU-15 is clip fed instead of using a self contained ammo supply stored in the barrel. One spare clip for each GU-15 is stored in each leg of the mecha (or 2 spare clips if the pilot only carries 1 Gun Pod).
    8. Howard PBS-03F Pin-Point Barrier System: The VF-14U1 is equipped with a new mecha scaled pin-point barrier system for defense. The system can generate a single PPB that can be moved anywhere on the mecha and be used as a shield against incoming attacks. Unlike The VF-17 and Other Fighters upgraded with the PPB system, The Super Hunter Is equipped with an advanced power relay system allows the VF-14U1 to Fire its Lasers while the PPB is Active.
    9. Hand to Hand Combat: If necessary the Pilot of the VF-14U1 Super Hunter can engage in melee combat rather than use a weapon. The variable Fighter is extremely agile and can execute most typical hand to hand combat moves such as punches, jump kicks, leap attacks, rolling with impacts, etc.
