Co2 Laser Surgery for Acne scar revision
This is a daily account of my experience of Laser surgery. My proceedure is being performed at Bedford Hospital in Bedford. The hospital is an NHS hospital although I am admitted as a private patient. I am thankfully able to pay for this proceedure, but do not be disheartened if you are unable as some doctors will refer you on the NHS. This diary is intended only as an aid for people who are thinking about this proceedure and would like to know more, hopefully this will help you make a more informed decision.

Day 1 - Monday 26th November

The night before!
This is how I look now.Although I am very informed about what will happen I am naturally quite scared..

You should be very informed yourself by this stage. Make sure you have asked your surgeon all the questions that are troubling you. If you are unsure about what questions to ask then look up the BAAPS website for more info (
www.baaps.org.uk). They should be able to help. Don't worry if your surgeon is not registered with BAAPS though, as my surgeon is not. Just make sure that he/she has the right qualifications, has performed many surgeries of this kind and that you have faith in him/her.

Day 2 - Tuesday 27th November
            Day of surgery
I arrived at the hospital by 7.30am, (I was asked to be there for 8am). I was really scared, (and I am still!) I felt akward and sick all morning, and felt like running away. After much waiting I was finally asked to get changed at 10am ready for surgery. After changing I was escorted to the Laser clinic.

After a meeting with the anaesthitist, the nurses, and a final brief from my surgeon, I was taken to the operating room. Everyone was very helpful and put me at ease. I was administed the anaesthetic and around twenty/thirty seconds later...zzzzzzz.

I was awoken by the staff, who were helpful and chatty (considering later what I actually looked like (see opposite) I am suprised they weren't falling about laughing - but I guess they see it often enough, and I'm glad they didn't.). They put me at ease, and I am very grateful for that.

Soon I was taken back to the ward (I was asked if I would prefer a room of my own, which I thought was very considerate, and  accepted.). My partner joined me and stayed with me for the next several hours in which I repeatedly dozed off.

I was discharged a little after 4pm.

Now I just have to get to sleep, upright, with repeated ice water sprays every 1 - 2 hours throughout the night!

Oh yeah... and paracetimol!
Probably not a glamorous moment for anyone... does'nt get much better either!
