February 5, 2006:
Sallie and Riley went to Fort Worth for the Stock Show, and they came home as High Point 9-12!  They won Western Pleasure and Horsemanship 9-12, and they placed in all of their classes.  What a great way to start the year!  Congratulations!
In the Illinois year end standings, Meg and Patrick were High Point Junior Pony, Junior Western Pl, Junior English Pl, and Medium Geldings Halter.  What a way to finish your junior career!  We're sure you'll continue to be just as successful in the senior classes.
In the TN year end standings, Sallie and Riley were High Point Senior Western Pleasure, 9-12 Equitation, and Res. Hi Pt Sr. English Pleasure.  Not bad for their first season together (and they didn't even make it to all the shows).
This year is Meg's last year showing as a youth, and we're sure that Patrick will make it their best!  Sallie and Riley are finishing up their 9-12 career, and Kendall and Slinky are moving up to 13-18.  Awesome will be making his 8&Under debut with Gracie, so our babies are now showing in every age group.  Good luck to everyone in 2006!

October 25, 2005:
The International Futurity went well, and now the horses are enjoying their much deserved winter break.  Annie had a nearly flawless trail pattern, and despite a (major) rider error, she still ended up 5th.  Awesome also had a great trail pattern, and he was definitely the crowd favorite in Western pleasure, placing 2nd and 5th overall, respectively.
Thursday evening Awesome was ridden by a bunch of kids, and despite the huge variety of leg and rein cues, he handled it all well and acted like an old pro.  But it was Friday morning when he met his new "mom" Grace.  It was immediately clear that Awesome liked Grace as much as she liked him, and they looked great together.  On Saturday afternoon, Awesome loaded into the trailer and headed to his new home with the Reiners in Minnesota.  Under the guidance of David Lawson, we are sure that Grace and Awesome will be at the top of their 8&Under classes in 2006 (and 2007 and 2008).

September 22, 2005:
We're just about done showing for the year-all that's left is the International Futurity in Des Moines, IA, October 12-15.  The MidEast Regional went extremely well as Annie won both 2 y/o pleasure classes and Awesome won both 3 y/o pleasure classes.
Everyone ended up doing really well in the year-end standings for CMHA.  Petie was Reserve High Point 19-34, and he ended up top 3 in Geldings Halter, 19-34 English Eq, English Pl, Western Eq, and 19&Over Trail.  Annie was Reserve High Point 13&Over Walk/Trot, Champion In Hand Trail (undefeated all season), Res. Ch. W/T Novice Horse trail (top 3 all season), Top 4 in 2&Under halter, W/T NH Western Horsemanship, English Eq, English Pl, 19-34 Showmanship, and Top 8 in Jackpot Showmanship and W/T NH Western Pl (not bad being the only pony in classes of 15-25 all season).  Awesome ended up Champion Pony Halter and Junior Western Pleasure, Res. Ch 19&Over Trail (by only 1 point), and 4th in 19-34 Western Pleasure.  We're very happy with everyone's success this summer.
Steven and Kim have been in school for about a month now, but all of the animals are keeping Paul and Evie company at home.  Steven is a freshman at Western Michigan University, and he is hoping to go into business.  Kim is starting her Master's Degree in biomedical engineering at the University of Michigan.  They're both doing well and having a great time.  Kim comes home on most weekends (but not missing any football games) to keep the ponies in shape (mentally and physically) for the International Futurity, and they're continuing to improve on each ride.   We're looking forward to Iowa....

July 29, 2005:
At the International Show, Awesome ended up High Point JPFC 3&4 y/o and won Western Pleasure!  He also had great rides in Trail (2nd) and English Pleasure (4th), and we were very happy with him.  Annie also did a good job in Tennessee, and she ended up 7th in JPFC 2 y/o Western Pleasure and Trail, and she was 9th in English Pleasure.  After we got home from the Int'l, we hurried off to a CMHA show (with limited classes for everyone), which also went well.  Annie was top 3 in her In Hand and Walk Trot Novice Horse trail classes and top 4 in Jackpot Showmanship.  Awesome placed very well in his halter, trail, and Western Pleasure classes.  Petie also did well in his English classes, despite having the week off while we were in TN.
Rachel and Riley did an excellent job at the International.  They placed well in English Eq, Hunter Hack, English Pl, Huntseat Eq Over Fences, and Versatility, and they made the final cut in Sr Western Pleasure.  They had multiple wins under individual judges, and we're very happy with them.  Riley now has a new home across the street from Rachel with her cousin Sallie Thetford.  Sallie will finish up the season with Riley, and we're looking forward to seeing what they can do in their last year of 9-12 next year.  Good luck to this new pair.
Meg and Patrick also did a great job in Tennessee.  They ended up 5th overall in Medium Geldings Halter out of a large, tough class, and they brought home ribbons in the futurity classes as well.
Kendall and Slinky ended up 3rd overall 9-12 girl!  They won Handy Horse and placed well many other classes.  They looked great together, and we're very impressed with how far they have come in such a short time.  They have been cleaning up at all of their shows, and they won 5 classes and 2 high point awards at the MidAmerica Regional.  Congrats to all of our "babies," we're proud of you!

July 10,2005:
All our babies did well at the MidEast Regional, and we're quite pleased with them.  Annie was high point JPFC 2 y/o with wins in Trail and English Pleasure, and she was 4th in Western Pleasure.  Awesome was 2nd in JPFC 3&4 y/o Western Pleasure, 4th in Trail, and 5th in Western Pleasure.  Patrick and Megan placed well in 13-18 and Junior classes, and they won Medium Geldings Halter.  Congrats!  We're looking forward to seeing everyone at the International next week.  Good luck to all!

June 27, 2005:
We have 3 more CMHA shows under our belt, and everyone has improved since our first show this year.  Petie has figured out how to canter nicely, and he has a few wins in English and Trail classes.  He's doing a great job in all of his classes, and Kim has even taken him into bareback a couple times (and they were top 4 every time in large classes).  Annie has the walk-trot stuff down pat, and she's holding her own in large (20+) novice horse classes.  She was reserve high point at the last show with 5 1sts and top 6 in all of her classes.  Awesome is continuing to do a great job in the junior pleasure classes, and despite being the only pony out there, he is consistently in the top few placings.
The national POA standings have been updated through June 1st, and Kendall and Slinky are currently 1st in Top Ten Pony, Trail, Reining, Western Riding, Showmanship, Stockseat, Bareback, and 9-12 Equitation Traveling Trophy, and they're in the top 6 in Timed Events, Huntseat Eq, and Western Pleasure ridden by a Girl.  Rachel and Riley are 2nd in Jumping, and top 6 in English Eq, Bareback, Huntseat Eq Over Fences, and 13-18 Equitation Traveling Trophy.  Keep up the good work!
We're off to the MidEast Regional this weekend, and Annie and Awesome will be shown in 2 y/o and 3&4 y/o JPFC classes.  This will be Annie's first time cantering at a show, and with only cantering about a dozen times at home, it could be interesting.  Hopefully it goes well for everyone.

May 20, 2005:
After less than half a dozen rides this year (due to Kim being at school and uncooperative weather), Petie, Annie, and Awesome went to the first CMHA show of the year on April 30-May 1.  Petie made his debut cantering in the 19-34 classes, and despite not knowing his leads or having very nice canter transitions, he did a pretty good job.  Annie had only trotted 3 times before the show, but she held her own in the novice horse walk-trot classes.  She wasn't bothered by the large class size (15+), and she placed in the top three in both western eq and trail.  She was more comfortable in in hand trail, and she won that under both judges.  Awesome's classes were limited now that Petie is cantering, but he placed well in halter, trail, and Junior Western Pleasure.  With a few more weeks before the next show and some nicer weather ahead, we should be much more prepared for the rest of the summer.
Riley and Patrick made the trek back to Indiana for the Eastern Classic last weekend.  The classes were large (30+ in 13-18), and the weather wasn't great, but they represented us well.  Rachel and Riley were Res Champions in Hunter Hack 13-18 and Huntseat Eq Over Fences, and they placed in numerous other classes.  Patrick and Meg were Champions in Jr Western Pl and Showmanship, Res Champions in Jr English Pl, and top 3 in the 13-18 pleasures and Jr Trail.  They also had some nice patterns and placed well in the eq classes.  Congrats guys!  We're looking forward to seeing you at the MidEast Regional.
In non-horse news, Kim graduated from the University of Michigan with her bachelor's degree in chemical engineering on May 1st.  Howerver, she decided to go to the CMHA show instead of graduation... you know what her priorities are.  She's going to go back to U of M in the fall to get her master's degree in biomedical engineering.

April 27, 2005:
Scarlett had her baby at 4 AM on April 19; unfortunately, it was stilborn.  He was a very cute bay colt with a blanket and crooked blaze.  It was a very sad time, and no one knows what happened.  We'll try again for next year, and hopefully everything will go well.
On a better note, Patrick and Riley cleaned up at the IN POA show last weekend.  The weather was horrible, but that didn't stop them.  Meg and Patrick won showmanship and Junior English Pl and placing in the top 5 in all other pleasure classes and halter, and Rachel and Riley won Western Pleasure 13-18 and Senior Western Pl and placed in the top 3 in showmanship and equitation classes.

March 23, 2005:
Rachel and Riley made a trip to sunny Florida earlier this month, and they did a great job.  Saturday was an open show, but showing against the "big horses" didn't stop them from winning 10 classes on their way to High Point 18&Under.  Sunday was a POA show, and they were High Point 13-18 with 9 individual class wins.  Way to go!
Kendall and Slinky went to an open show, and they were Reserve High Point 12-14.  This is Kendall's first year in this age group, but they clearly held their own.  At a schooling show at the McKenzie's barn, they were Reserve High Point One Pony/One Rider.  Congrats Kendall and Slinky!
Our horses are starting to shed, and as soon as the weather gets nice, they'll start getting ridden again.  Our show season is approaching....
Scarlett is looking VERY pregnant (she looks bigger now than the day before Annie was born), and she is enjoying her time away from the rest of the group.  She is due around April 14th, and we're very excited about this new baby.

January 30, 2005:
Rachel and Riley headed out to the Fort Worth Stock Show last week, and they came home with a collection of awards showing against some tough competition.  They were Reserve Champion Western Horsemanship 13-18, 4th Hunter Hack, 5th English Eq, 5th Hunter Over Fences, 6th Trail, 6th Equitation Over Fences, 7th Senior Western Pleasure, 8th Senior English Pleasure, 8th Western Pleasure, and 8th in Large Mares Halter.
Kendall and Slinky also went to the Stock Show, and they started out their last year in 9-12 with a bang.  They were Champion Pole Bending 9-12, Reserve Champion Western Pleasure, Western Horsemanship, and Trail, 3rd Single Pole, 3rd Go Go, 5th Hunter Over Fences, and 5th in English Equitation.  Congrats to both of you.  What a  great way to start out the new year!

January 15, 2005:
Well the 2004 awards banquets have come and gone, and everyone did very well.  Rachel and Riley were High Point 13-18 girl, #2 performance pony, High Point Western Pleasure 13-18, High Point Senior Western Pleasure, Reserve High Point Jumping Pony, Reserve High Point Gaming Pony, and Reserve High Point 13-18 Equitation in Tennessee.  Megan and Patrick were High Point Medium Geldings Halter and Reserve High Point Junior Pony in Illinois.  They were also #4 in the nation in Medium Geldings.  Congrats on a great year, we're looking forward to seeing how you do in 2005!
Even though we only showed under 8 of the 15 judges at CMHA shows, we still ended up doing pretty well.  Awesome was in the top 6 in 2&U Halter, In Hand Trail, 19-34 Huntseat Eq, 19-34 HUS, 19-34 Western Horsemanship, 19-34 Western Pleasure, and 19&Over trail.  Annie is right up there in Pony Halter, Lunge Line, and In Hand Trail (she didn't go in showmanship enough times to qualify for a year end award).  Petie ended up Reserve High Point 13&Over W/T (only 20 points behind high point), and he was high point Western Horsemanship and Trail, Reserve in Western Pleasure, and top 5 in Huntseat Equitation, HUS, Showmanship 19-34, and 3&Over Geldings Halter.  We're very pleased with everyone's performances all summer.

October 16, 2004:
We're home from Iowa, and both Annie and Awesome did a great job.  Annie had a nearly flawless In Hand Trail pattern (she ended up 4th), and she had her best Lunge Line class all year.  Awesome held his own, and he placed in all three 2 y/o JPFC classes.  We're very happy with the past summer, and we're looking forward to next year.

September 13, 2004:
The MidEast Regional Futurity has come and gone, and Annie and Awesome both made money.  Annie stumbled in Lunge Line, but other than that she had a nice pattern, and she ended up 8th.  Awesome gave Kim some very nice rides in the 2 y/o classes, and he won both Western and English.  Now we're getting ready for Iowa....

September 7th, 2004:
Well, we've finished the CMHA show season, and we couldn't have asked for more from the babies.  Petie was high point at the last two shows, and Awesome ended up reserve high point 19-34 both weekends, not bad for a 2 y/o (and the only pony out there).  All 3 knew their jobs and did them well, and they won quite a few classes (25 total over the 2 weekends).  Awesome got to do his first patterns ever in the equitation classes Aug 28-29, but since it was raining and the warm up arena was outside, he didn't get to practice.  However, he acted like a pro and did his patterns perfectly.  Kim couldn't have asked for better patterns from a seasoned show horse.
