History of Station
According to Elizabeth Willnot's Book, "When Any Time
Was Train Time", the first train arrived in Ingersoll in Dec 15, 1853 with
regular passenger service started on January 27, 1854. The Great Western Railway
built the first station, a plain building, that was replaced by the present
structure.
Ingersoll saw three railways come to town in the early years. Along with the
Great Western, the Credit Valley Railway and the Tillsonburg, Lake & Pacific
all eventually made it to Ingersoll.
The Woodstock, Thames Valley and Ingersoll Electric Railway also operated a tramway between Ingersoll and Woodstock from 1901 until 1925.
Ingersoll is now serviced by CP, CN, Ontario Southland and VIA so is still a busy railway town.
Here is a picture of the station from Elizabeth Willmot's book sometime in the seventies as well as the original architect's drawings from November 30, 1885
