A Tribute to Tolkien | ||||||||||||
This is a poem written by a dear friend of mine. It captures my own thoughts on Tolkien and I am sure many others. So read on, sigh and enjoy! | ||||||||||||
An Invitation to Tolkien Sir, the door is always open And the kettle always on And your place is always waiting Choose the chair to sit upon. Long your life, by human measure, Not near long enough for me. You moved on before I noticed Such a writer properly. Be at ease, I'll keep my questions Until you bid me to ask. Only come and have tea with me. That can't be too great a task. Let me tell you why it matters That you wrote so perfectly. Let me tell you how your words made Havens for a child like me. Let me say your thoughts inspired me, That your people taught me how To choose honour over comfort. I am what they made me now. Let me speak my heart's devotion To the green world you adored. Let me tell you, dear Professor, That we kneel to the same Lord. Though my writing cannot equal All that you were born to do, Still I try to be a writer, And I am inspired by you. Come and talk, and tell me stories. Draw your pictures, let me see Middle Earth. Professor Tolkien, Spare an hour from Heaven for tea. by Neneithel |
