Lanthir stood for a long moment gazing out into the night.  Finally, he turned back to look at us.
Wolves.  They are close.  Maybe two miles distant.  His brow was creased again and I could tell something was troubling him.  They are roaming far from their usual territory.  These are not the wolves I have faced before.  We must be careful.
Priscilla and I did not move as we watched Lanthir begin to gather more firewood.  He turned to look at us, his eyes stern once more.  Help me.  We must light fires in a circle around us to keep the wolves at bay.  I didnt want to move, but with Priscillas nudging I was able to get up and in a few moments we had several fires lit all around us.  When the last fire had been fanned into strong flame, Lanthir motioned us to the middle of the circle.
It is time you sleep.  It will be a long night and there is no telling what this new hazard may ask of us in the morning.  You need your rest and strength.
Priscilla and I ended up laying back to back, wrapped in our blankets, as close as we could get to one another.  I tried to force my eyes shut but couldnt.  Even as I relate this, the howls are coming closer to us.  A beast that can make such a horrible noise I never wish to see.  I find that I am suddenly overjoyed for the form of Lanthir that is sitting not far from me, keen eyes alert and wary.  I may not have been happy with Lanthirs training today, but at every howl I am thankful for the Elf that is sitting a silent watchman over our little party.  The howls are even closer now.  I do not think I will shut my eyes tonight.
