CHRISTIANS SERVING CHRIST    (Part 4)

Bible Passage: Acts 2: 40-47.

Memory Verse:  “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be My witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.” Acts 1: 8. (NIV).

LESSON OBJECTIVE

We should, at the end of the Study, have learnt of the places where we are to serve the Lord.

LESSON INTRODUCTION

There is no place that is too exalted for the Gospel to be preached there. Starting from your house all the way to the Presidential Lodge or the Monarch’s Palace – we are to serve God by preaching the Gospel in all these places.

LESSON OUTLINE 1: IN THE CHURCH

We know we are to serve God within the Church environment, but with what?

i). Our different talents and skills are to be pulled together for corporate service to the Lord, i.e. for the good of the body of Christ, the Church. I Peter 4: 10-11.

ii). Our spiritual gifts too are to be used in serving God.

Rom. 12: 6-8; Eph. 4: 11-13 (note v. 12); I Cor. 12: 2-14.

Note that I Cor. 12: 7 teaches us that every member of the body of Christ has been given some spiritual gift that is an evidence of the Spirit’s working in his/her life. All the gifts are intended to build up the members of the Christian community (as we saw in I Peter 4: 10-11). They are not to be used for selfish advantage.

So, what are the gifts the Holy Spirit has given you? How are you using them in serving the Lord within the Church?

LESSON OUTLINE 2: IN HOMES AND FORMAL SETTINGS

i). The Lord preached in Cities, Towns, Villages, Synagogues, etc. Matth. 9: 35. And we know the Apostles did the same.

ii). Christians are to be light that shines everywhere they find themselves – and therefore we are serve the Lord in Cities, Towns, Villages, Schools, Marketplaces and Shops, Offices, and in our homes too. That is what the Lord expects of us. Matth. 5: 13-16.

LESSON OUTLINE 3: EVERYWHERE

i). The Lord expects us to serve Him all over the world. Acts 1: 8.

ii). The Holy Spirit directed Philip, Peter, Paul and others to go and serve the Lord in places like Gaza, Samaria, Judea, and far away Gentile lands.

Acts 8: 26-36; 9: 10-15.

iii). The Space, Air, the Water, the Road, the Train or Tram, the Restaurant are all good places to serve the Lord.

But how can we do so without being considered a nuisance by others in the same confined space?

LESSON OUTLINE 4: BUT WHAT OF WHEN WE FEEL INCAPABALE?

Others before us, including such mighty men of God as Moses, Jeremiah and Paul, also felt weak and incapable of serving the Lord. But thank God He is the One that strengthens us to serve Him. I Peter 5: 10; Exodus 3: 11; Jer. 1: 4-8; Phil. 4: 13.

SUMMARY

We are to serve the Lord anywhere, everywhere and at all times using the gifts He has given us.
