CHRISTIANS SERVING CHRIST    (Part 3)

Bible Passage: I Cor. 1: 26-31.

Memory Verse:  “Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, ‘Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?’ And I said, ‘ Here am I. Send me!’” Isaiah 6: 8. (NIV).

LESSON OBJECTIVE

We should, at the end of the Study, be able to understand that serving God is required of everybody (whether rich or poor, male or female, young or old, etc).

LESSON INTRODUCTION

God is not interested in indolent, lazy, cold or even lukewarm Christians. He rather wants all of us to be hot in serving Him, people he can depend upon to do His bidding. Rev 3: 14-16.

LESSON OUTLINE 1: POOR AND RICH, EDUCATED AND ILLITERATE – GOD USES THEM ALL

i). God used Joseph of Arimathea, a rich man, for the burial of Christ’s body.

Matth. 27: 57-60.

ii). But the Lord also commended the poor widow who gave to God all she had, though worth very little in monetary terms. Mark 12: 42-44.

iii). Though Peter and John were uneducated men, they were effective and bold servants of the Lord. And He accepted their services by confirming His word through them. Acts 4: 13.

iv). Paul, who was a well educated lawyer, also served God faithfully and acceptably. Acts 26: 24-25.

God is still using anyone who is willing to serve him faithfully – whether poor or rich, highly educated or plain graduates of the University of Experience of Life.

LESSON OUTLINE 2: MALE OR FEMALE, OLD OR YOUNG – GOD ACCEPTS SERVICE FROM THEM ALL

Both male and female, young and old alike are called to serve the Lord. For instance

i). Both old Simeon and Anna served the Lord. See Luke 2: 25-32; 36-38.

ii). Samuel was very young when he answered God’s call to serve Him as His spokesman. I Sam. 3: 10-14.

iii). Though all Christ’s disciples were male, the women were there also.

See Acts 1: 12-13; 14; Luke 8: 2-3.

LESSON OUTLINE 3: THE HIGHLY TALENTED, THE LESS TALENTED, OR ONE OF ANY TRADE/BUSINESS – ALL ARE TO SERVE THE LORD

i). God distributes gifts to all individuals as He pleases.

Rom. 12: 3-8: Eph. 4: 7-13; Matth. 25: 14-18.

ii). Whether a tent maker or fisherman, doctor, tax collector, trader, business man or woman, office or factory worker, window cleaner, road sweeper  or lawyer, we are to serve God with the abilities He has given us. Acts 18: 1-5.

What trades are not acceptable in the Lord’s service?

SUMMARY

The Lord calls you too to His service. Don’t feel shy, inferior or incompetent. Remember, “I can do all things through Christ Who gives me strength” (Phil. 4: 13). So, be bold and go for it.
