CHRISTIANS
SERVING CHRIST (Part 1)
Bible Passage: John 13: 2-17
Memory Verse: “Serve
the Lord with fear and rejoice with trembling” Psalm 2:11.
LESSON
OBJECTIVE
We should, at the end
of the Study, be able to understand that what is expected of a true child of
God is pure and undefiled service to the Lord.
LESSON
INTRODUCTION
Christians are called
to daily serve the Lord. Just before He left, the Lord commissioned us into His
service, “All authority in heaven and earth has been given to Me. Therefore go
and make disciples of all nations, …” Matth.
28:18-19.
LESSON
OUTLINE 1: WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO RENDER SERVICE UNTO CHRIST ONLY?
i). It is
following the Lord’s instruction to deliver service unto Him as per His
instruction. John 12: 26.
ii). It is a pure,
sincere and total service that comes from the heart. It is not eye service, nor
the sort of service that is marked by carelessness or lack of devotion. Eph. 6: 5-8.
iii). It is the sort
of service that expects reward from God only and not from man.
Col. 3: 23-24.
LESSON
OUTLINE 2: GOD HIMSELF DEMANDS IT
i). God commands
that all believers should serve Him. Psalm
2:11.
ii). His word
records faithful service from a number of the Lord’s people. Think of Peter,
Paul, Elijah, Elisha, Jeremiah, David, Jehoshaphat, etc, etc. They were merely
doing what the Lord commands and expects of His people.
Exodus 23: 25; Deut. 10: 12; Eph. 6: 7,
etc.
iii). God wants all
who say they are His people and He their God to serve Him with our lives, our abilities, and all that we
are and have.
Deut. 6:5; I John 3:18; Heb. 12: 28.
LESSON
OUTLINE 3: BUT MUCH IS EXPECTED OF A SERVANT
i). Serving God
also extends to serving our brethren and neighbors as well.
Mark 10: 43-44; I John 3: 17-18.
ii). Serving others
also contributes to sharing their burdens with them. Gal. 6: 2.
iii). When we serve
others, we should remember we are serving the Lord, and such service rendered
unto men should also be total, undiluted and whole-hearted.
Eph. 6: 5-7.
SUMMARY
Serving God also
entails serving others faithfully.
