TOPIC: WALKING WITH GOD (Summary of Character studies of selected Old Testament Saints)

Introduction:

In the last 8-9 months we have studied and discussed the life and Character of selected Old Testament Saints with focus on their walk with God. Applying the lessons learnt from these studies to our lives is very important. Therefore, we shall conclude these studies by looking at the essential requirements for walking with God and the results thereof as exemplified in the lives of these saints: Abraham, Jacob, Joseph, Moses, Joshua, Samson, Ruth, David, Solomon, Daniel and Esther.

Essential requirements for walking with God

A. Faith: All the Saints mentioned above had faith in God. They all lived by faith and were justified by faith. Thus fulfilling

the scripture "the just shall live by his faith" (Hab.2: 4). Walking with God requires absolute and unshakable faith in Him.

"Without faith it is impossible to please God" (Heb. 11: 6).

Questions:

1) What is faith? Heb. 11:1-2.

2) Why do we need faith to walk with God? Heb.1 1:6; 2Chr. 20:20; John 6:28-29; Eph. 6:16; James

5) What are the hindrances to the demonstration of faith by believers?

B. Holiness. Holiness plays very important roles in our walk with God. It is a pre-requisite for walking with God.

For God is Holy, and without holiness no one can see Him or walk with Him (see Heb. 12:14). God demands all men/women that

come to Him should first be purged of their sins and uncleanness through repentance and faith in Him to forgive and cleans them

from sins. We must keep ourselves holy to be able to walk with God.

8) How can Holiness be obtained? Psalm 139:23-24; 32:1-5; Jere. 3:13-14; Hosea: 14:1-9.

9) What roles did holiness or lack of it play in the lives of the following:

• Joseph (Gen. 39:7-12, 20-23.)

• Samson (Judge 16:1-4, 15-17.)

• Solomon (I Kings 3:1-14; 11:1-4)

• Daniel (Daniel 1:8-17.)

C. Obedience: Obeying God’s commandments and doing God’s will are imperative in walking with Him. For two can not walk

together unless they agreed (Amos 3:3). And no man can serve two masters (Matt. 6:24).

Results of Walking with God

Walking with God brings success, prosperity, victory, glory, and all good things of life in this world, and above all eternal life.
