CHRISTIAN FAMILY FELLOWSHIP, PDO MUSCAT
TOPIC: JOSHUA (Part-3): Further Conquests and Consolidation in Canaan
Introduction:
We have discussed, in previous studies, how Joshua became the assistant to Moses, the characteristics
that led to his selection, his remarkable faith in God and his eventual annointment as the successor to
Moses. We also discussed his early conquests in Canaan and the remarkable fall of Jericho. The fall of
Jericho underscores the fact that Israel succeeded when they relied on God, not military might.
The study on Joshua will be concluded today by reviewing Joshua’s further conquests in Canaan, consolidation of the conquest and rededication of the children of Israel in the land of promise and Joshua’s farewel charge to the people.
The Bible does not give history for its own sake. Rather, it presents practical and spiritual lessons. Fortunately, Joshua’s lessons are overwhelmingly positive ones. Guided by God, the nation of Israel met with unprecedented success. In fact, the book of Joshua concludes that There failed not ought of any good thing which the LORD had spoken unto the house of Israel; all came to pass" Josh 21 :45(KJV). The few negative stories (such as the battle in Ai and the trick of the Gibeonites) show what happened when Israel did not seek God’s will.
