VESSELS FIT FOR THE MASTER’S USE (Part 1)

Bible Passage: 2 Timothy 2: 20-26.

Memory Verse: "But in a great house there are not only vessels of gold and silver, but also of wood and clay; some for honour and some for dishonour." (2 Timothy 2:20.)

LESSON FOCUS

Our lesson will focus on keeping the vessel unto honour clean and undefiled.

LESSON INTRODUCTION

Let us have a closer look at 2Timothy 2 :20-26.

What are the negative and positive characteristics of ‘vessels that are unto honour’?

See vs 22-25.. 2

What blessings go with being ‘vessels unto honour’? See vs 1 and 26.

LESSON OUTLINE 1: A VESSEL UNTO HONOUR MUST BE UNDEFILED

For a vessel unto honour to retain its position in the great house, it is essential that it remains clean all the time.

1. What can defile or dirty it? See I John 2: 15-17.

What practical day-to-day examples fit in here?

2. Ephesians 5: 3-20 deals quite extensively with our subject. Le us look at the passage to find out the sort of standards God expects us to live up to.

And for as long as we are young, why all the emphasis on making the most of our opportunity?

From v. 18, why contrast wine with the Holy Spirit?

What follows when we are filled with the Holy Spirit? See vs 19-20 & Col. 3:15-16.

LESSON OUTLINE 2: YOU HAVE A PART TO PLAY IN YOUR CLEANSING

In the matter of our cleansing from sin and its defilement, God has played His part by sending the Lord Jesus to shed His blood as the payment for our sins.

See I John 1: 7; 1 Peter 3: 18(a).

We all individually have a part to play in the cleansing process.

See Heb. 9:14; I John 3: 3; Isa. 1:15-16(a).

As we repent of our ways and turn from our sins, we have His promise that He will make us as white as snow. Isa. 1:18.

SUMMARY

"My son, if sinners entice you (to defile or lead you astray), do not give in to them."

Prov. 1:10.
