THE HOLY
SPIRIT - (PART 8)
Memory Verse: “So I say, live by the
Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the sinful nature.” Gal. 5: 16 (NIV).
Bible
Passage: Galatians 5: 16-26.
LESSON OBJECTIVE
To
be able, at the end of the lesson, to know
i).
The type of life expected of a child of God; and
ii).
His role as a comforter to other believers.
LESSON INTRODUCTION
If
you are controlled by the Holy Spirit, you will know how best to comfort
another believer. We shall see this better in today’s lesson.
LESSON OUTLINE 1: CONTROLLED
BY THE HOLY SPIRIT
a).
How do we demonstrate we are controlled (led or live) by the Holy Spirit?
See
Gal 5: 22-23.
It is by displaying the full fruit of
the Holy Spirit in our lives.
b).
What, on the contrary, are the characteristics of the man that is not led or
controlled by the Holy Spirit?
See
Gal. 5: 19-21; 2 Tim. 3: 1-5.
c).
It is quite easy to enter into arguments that could lead to quarrelling. What
does God expect His people to replace quarrels with?
See
2 Tim. 2: 24-25.
d).
How then does 2 Cor. 5: 17 become a reality in our lives?
By our submitting ourselves to the leading and control of the Holy Spirit.
See
Gal. 5: 24-26.
This is in keeping with God’s demand
that we be meek, i.e. humble and submissive. He calls the meek “blessed”, and has a reward for them
too. See Matth. 5:5.
LESSON OUTLINE 2: THE GREAT
COMFORTER
See
John 14: 16-17.
We shall now look at the child of God
in his role as a comforter.
a).
Why do we need the Spirit of meekness?
To be able to restore, in love, the
brother/sister in the Lord who has made a mistake.
See
I Cor. 4:21; Gal. 6: 1-2.
b). When the Lord
takes us through troubles, He doesn’t expect the matter to just end there. What
more does He expect from us?
See
2 Cor. 1: 3-4.
c). What is the linkage between the one who is anointed and
those who mourn?
See
Isa. 61: 1-3.
SUMMARY
If
you are led by the Holy Spirit, you will not gratify the desires of the sinful
nature. Rather you will bear fruit and your fruit will surely stand.
