LESSON
OBJECTIVE
To be able, at the
end of the lesson, to know
i). The blessings
God has for the anointed; and
ii). The security
of the anointed.
LESSON
INTRODUCTION
To be anointed by God
offers us more security than Life Assurance Policies. We shall see more of this
as we go into today’s lesson.
LESSON
OUTLINE 1: THE BLESSINGS GOD OFFERS THE ANOINTED
a).
Look at Psalm 89: 18-24. What blessings
does God promise the anointed?
v19: Strength,
exaltation/lifting up/promotion;
v20: God sees him
as “His man”, someone God can count on;
v21: He receives
sustenance and help from God;
v22: God will not
allow the enemy to oppress him;
v23: God Himself
will defeat the enemies and adversaries of the anointed;
v24:God promises
His faithful love to him, and will exalt him.
b).
What two conditions are necessary for
the anointing to go on flowing?
i). Hate and run
away from evil, see I Thessa. 5: 22; Rom
12: 9.
ii). Live and grow
daily in holiness, see James 4: 17; I
Pet. 1: 13-16.
c).
What is God’s purpose in anointing us? See Isa. 61: 1-3.
i). To preach the
gospel. ii). To bind up the
broken hearted.
iii). To proclaim
freedom to the captives. iv). To release prisoners
from darkness.
v). To proclaim
that the Lord’s favour has come.
vi). To proclaim
that God’s vengeance/judgment against sin has come.
vii). To comfort the
mourners.
viii). To declare the
restoration of God’s favour to the written-off, the cast away or rejected.
d).
What have you done with God’s anointing on your life?
LESSON OUTLINE 2: TOUCH
NOT MY ANOINTED
On
what basis do we talk of the security of the anointed?
a).
What has God pronounced concerning His
anointed? See Psalm 105: 14-15.
You’d better not harm
him!
b). Why are people warned not to touch the anointed of the Lord for evil?
See Zech. 2: 8-9; Isa. 41:
9-13.
Are you strong enough
to fight God Himself?
c). At the time
King Saul was chasing David all over the land to kill him, David actually had
the opportunity to finish Saul off and climb on to the throne of Israel.
Why
did David feel so bad with himself after he went as far as cutting off the
corner of Saul’s robe? Why didn’t he kill Saul outright and save the land from
further confusion?
See
I Sam 24: 3-7, and particularly v. 6
It therefore is no
surprise when we read of what David did to the man who falsely claimed to have
killed King Saul, II Sam. 1: 14-16.
SUMMARY
You need the blessing
and security God offers to the anointed. That is the sure way of seeing God’s
purpose for your life reaching fulfillment.
