LESSON OBJECTIVES

To be able to better appreciate, at the end of the lesson, the work of the Holy Spirit in His  role as a Powerful and Reviving Wind.

LESSON INTRODUCTION

In the next 10 lessons we shall have a comprehensive study on the Holy Spirit as we look at: His role, His characteristics, etc. For today we shall focus on His reviving activity – wherever He comes, He brings about a new life, He brings Revival..

LESSON OUTLINE 1: THE HOLY SPIRIT AS A POWERFUL WIND

Wind is one of the treasures of God, Jer. 10:13. So we are not surprised to see this analogy applied to the work of the Holy Spirit, John 3: 5-8.

a). How was His arrival on the Day of Pentecost described?

A sound like the blowing of a violent wind marked the coming of the holy Spirit on that day – see Acts 2: 1-2.

b). What functions has He performed in His role as powerful wind?

i). He turned man from a lifeless body to a living soul, Gen. 2: 7.

ii). He turned dead and dry bones to a living and mighty army, Ezek. 37: 4-10.

These mighty acts of His should not surprise us, because as the Sovereign Spirit, He makes the impossible possible, Luke 1: 37, and in fact, He does whatever pleases Him, Psalm 115: 3.

LESSON OUTLINE 2: THE HOLY SPIRIT IS A REVIVING WIND

a). How foes the Holy Spirit help believers in His role as the Prayer Warrior?

i). He helps believers to humble themselves in prayer, see II Chron. 7: 13-14a; Luke 18: 9-14.

ii). He helps us to pray tirelessly and without ceasing, I Thess. 5: 17.

iii). He uses our prayers to shake the foundation of our problems, Acts 4: 31.

iv). He supplies the utterance when we truly pray (instead of showing off), Rom 8: 26, 27.

v). He supplies the strength needed by believers to mount up like eagles, Is. 40:29-31.

vi). He is the One Who sees us through our times of trouble to the point of victory, Psalm  138: 3, 7-8.

 SUMMARY

The Holy Spirit in His role as a mighty and powerful wind is still alive today, bringing new life and revival wherever He comes. Let us pray He will touch us also as He moves amongst God’s people – and our lives will not be the same again.
