Revelation Gifts – Part 2

Bible Passage:  Exodus 31 :1-11.

Memory Verse: “A word aptly spoken is like apples of gold in settings of silver.”  (Prov. 25:11. NIV.)

Lesson’s Aim and Objective

We want to dig deeper into the gift of the word of wisdom so we can additionally discover its purpose.

Lesson Introduction

The “word of wisdom” is a gift from the Holy Spirit, and as such it must have some importance to believers.

Let us for a moment consider Exodus 31:1-11. The passage tells us of various highly gifted individuals who were brought together to build the tabernacle and its components that would be used in worshipping God.  They were to make the various parts “exactly like the pattern” that God showed only Moses, Exod. 25:9; 31:11 – and there were no video pictures or engineering drawings the men were to work with. All the same, they succeeded, Exod. 39:42-43

What then is the purpose behind the gift of “word of wisdom”?

Thank God it is all ultimately designed for building and developing the body of Christ, and not for us to show off with or boast about.

Lesson Outline 1:The Word of Wisdom is like an apple of gold

q       Divine wisdom is not limited to spiritual matters. It can be employed in our everyday lives, including our jobs, domestic duties, in leadership roles as well as in submitting to those in authority over us. It is also useful for understanding spiritual things. Exod. 31:1-5; Deut. 34: 8-11, particularly v. 9; Prov. 3:5-6.

q       Our God has the end in his hands right at the very beginning. At the proper time He brings to pass what He determined right at the foundation of the world. Therefore when He chooses to, He can give information ahead of time, as He considers fit and appropriate to us. Isa. 46:9-11; 48:3-7.                                                                     In the same way, He can also give information or the words that are appropriate to the occasion at hand, Lk. 12:11-12.

Lesson Outline 2: What is the purpose of the Gift?

q       It is useful in solving human problems. Think of King Solomon and the two women both of whom claimed the living child, 1 Kings 3:23-28.

q       It comes in handy for confusing the enemy.

§         Think of the Lord and those who sought to catch Him out on tax payment matters, Matt. 22:15-22.

§         The tempters over the issue of the woman caught in adultery, Jn. 8: 2-11.

§          Those who came to catch Him out on the question of authority, Matt. 21:23-27.

q       Paul used it to resolve a difficult situation in which he was, Acts 22:22-29.

q       Stephen used it to silence the wisdom of the Jews, Acts 6:8-11.

In all these examples, remember His promise in Lk. 12:11-12.

Summary:

The word of wisdom, which is like “apples of gold in settings of silver” (Prov. 25:11), can be employed in addressing both spiritual and physical problems.  Ask God for this gift so you also can use it.
