BLESS THE LORD - (PART 2)
Memory Verse: “Sing
praises to the Lord, enthroned in Zion; proclaim among the nations what He has
done.” Psalm 9: 11 (NIV).
LESSON
OBJECTIVE
To
be reminded of our calling to praise the Lord with our hands and voice, and in
the Holy Spirit.
LESSON
INTRODUCTION
We
shall today look at praising God with singing and dancing, praising Him with
the clapping of our hands and instruments of music, and praising Him in the
Holy Spirit.
LESSON
OUTLINE 1: PRAISING GOD WITH SINGING AND DANCING
Let
us take note of the following general points on praising God with singing and
dancing.
i). People of all
ages are to praise God. Matth. 21: 8- 9.
ii). They can
praise God by singing and dancing. Psalm
149: 2-3
iii). Sincere praise
comes from the inner heart of believers.
Luke 1: 46-49.
iv). Singing and
dancing are a symbol of bubbling joy from within.
Psalm 35: 18,
28; 149: 3; 150: 4.
v). Praising God
will displace sorrow. Psalm 30: 11-12.
LESSON
OUTLINE 2: PRAISING GOD WITH CLAPPING AND INSTRUMENTS OF MUSIC
i). We can praise
God with the clapping of our hands. Psalm
47: 1.
ii). We can also
praise God with musical instruments. Psalm
150: 3-5.
Tambourines,
violins, harps, organs, pianos, flutes, drums, cymbals, guitars – you name
them. We are to employ all these instruments of music in praising God.
LESSON
OUTLINE 3: PRAISING GOD IN THE HOLY SPIRIT
i). Singing spiritual songs from the heart comes from being
filled with the Holy Spirit. Eph. 5:
18-20.
ii). Instead of
using our tongues for evil (Psalm 34:
12-13; James 3: 9-10), the Holy Spirit wants to use our tongues to the
glory of God through singing praises. I
Cor. 10: 31; 14:15.
SUMMARY
We
are to sing, dance, clap and make a joyful noise to the Lord. This also is our
reasonable service unto Him Who has not only done, but continues to do, so much
for us. (Rom. 12: 1). He is worthy
of all the praise we can render to Him.
