This is the view from my front door. The building on the right, peeking through the trees is the historic Epworth Hall. I spent a lot of time playing behind it as a child.
My great grandparents Rev. A. E. Matthews and Nora Matthews began coming to Silver Lake in the 1930's, participating in the Epworth League and many programs at Camp Asbury. My grandparents Howard and Claudine Matthews bought their home on Hamline and Ames Avenue around 1935 and lived here year around shortly after that. I came to live here with them in 1957, and no matter where else I have lived, Silver Lake always calls me back. Silver Lake is home. |
